EDWIN PINGREE Obituary

PINGREE, Edwin Jason 93 years, of Piper Shores, Scarborough, ME, formerly of Melrose, MA and Goose Rocks Beach, ME, died April 14, 2013, following a period of declining health. Ed was born to Benjamin and Beulah (Keator) Pingree on November 14, 1919 in Saugus, MA. After graduating from Melrose High School, he spent a post graduate year at Tabor Academy and attended Dartmouth College. Following service as a U.S. Navy pilot in the Pacific during WWII, Ed earned his degree from Babson College, spent his working years as a stockbroker and became a partner at F.S. Moseley & Co. He married Mary Nell Ozment of Atlanta, GA on September 15, 1945; they celebrated nearly 60 years together until her passing in 2005. Ed summered all of his life at Goose Rocks Beach, Kennebunkport, ME and retired there full time in 1990. He was a lay leader at the First Methodist Church in Melrose, president of the Boston Investment Club and for many years, was an active member of the Melrose High School Scholarship Fund Committee. Ed enjoyed golf and tennis and was an avid Boston sports fan. He loved spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, Ed was predeceased by his brother, Ralph Pingree and by his sister, Frances Templeman. He is survived by his son, E. Jason Pingree, Jr. and wife Penelope of Boston, MA; his three daughters, Suzanne Olson and husband Clifford of Yarmouth, ME, Pamela Bond and husband Allan of Wakefield, MA, and Martha Sheehan and husband Robert of North Andover, MA; five grandchildren, John Olson and wife Erin, Rachel Pingree, Samuel Pingree, Hannah Sheehan and Kristen Sheehan; one great granddaughter, Chloe Olson; and three nephews, Lawrence Templeman and David and Philip Pingree. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 18 at 11 am at the South Congregational Church in Kennebunkport, ME. Interment will follow in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine, 142 Free Street, Portland, ME 04101.
