JOHANNA HARRIS Obituary

HARRIS, Johanna Alderfer (Nan) Passed peacefully January 27, 2019. Her life was guided by love, selflessness, devotion to others, reverence for the environment and boundless commitment to her family - all informed by grace, equanimity and a quiet elegance.

Charming beyond belief, sought after by all for her companionship, a delightful story teller, she warmed every room, enriched every gathering and dispensed love spontaneously.

To her children and grandchildren, she was essential. For them she was everything. For her husband, she was life.

Her bright spirit, graciousness and special spark made her loved far and wide. She left this world far better than she found it.

In remembrance, please support the Manomet Center for Conservation Science, The Nature Conservancy, or Bryn Mawr College. Services to be held at a later date.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family on the loss of one so dear. Remember our strength and peace comes from reliance on our heavenly Father in difficult times.

Nan was so kind to introduce me to Manomet Center when I moved to Plymouth in 2007. While on a nature walk on Martha's Vineyard, she enthused about the organization, arranged an introduction and welcomed me to the South Shore environmental community. I will always remember her warmth and dedication. My sympathy to you and your family, Bill. Ginny Murray (daughter of Dr Joe Murray)

Bill,
I was so sorry to hear of Nan's passing. In my mind, the two of you exemplified the ideal lives and relationship we all try to emulate--full of love, learning, accomplishment and giving back. You have my deepest sympathy.
