KIM LOHNES Obituary

LOHNES, Kim Allison Alcaide Of Lynnfield, MA, died peacefully on August 31st after a seven-year dance with ovarian cancer. She was 45. Kim will be universally remembered for her contagious smile, generous and caring soul, unwavering positivity, and strong character. She was naturally adventurous, and she spent her life being open to new things, constantly learning, and living every moment to the fullest. She enjoyed the opportunity to see the world by living in Paris, France, and traveling broadly, including volunteering her time as an Aide in Africa and with Habitat for Humanity in Asia. She also found great joy and comfort in the people and places closer to home, including her happy place -- Skelton Lake in Hollis, ME. Kim grew up in Bedford, MA where she was a member of the Class of 1988 at Bedford High School. She was a standout member of the soccer and track teams and was inducted into the Bedford High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. She was selected to compete in the Javelin at the Junior Olympics, and was honored as one of the nation's Asthma Athletes of the Year. Kim attended Syracuse University and graduated from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. Professionally, Kim thrived as an entrepreneur owning franchises for KaBloom and Koko Fit Club. As her cancer journey evolved, Kim became a devoted advocate for patient education and integrative care, working side-by-side with her ovarian cancer sisters to discover and share resources to combat the disease. Most recently, Kim worked with pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and other care organizations to share her story as a patient. She was a fiercely educated conductor of her own care, and approached cancer with the same grace and tenacity that she demonstrated in every aspect of her life. Kim had a gift for friendships and relationships, and is survived by many who love her, including her long-time partner, Matthew Bellotti. Earlier in life, Kim was married to Rod Kline (who passed away while they were living in France) and Walter Lohnes, now of Newport Beach, CA. In addition, Kim is survived by her parents, Bernadette Coakley Alcaide of El Paso, TX and David Alcaide of Nashua, NH; her brothers and their wives, Scott and Anne Alcaide of Pleasanton, CA and Mark and Pam Alcaide of Acton, MA; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends, who she always considered to be family. Finally, one of Kim's most cherished roles in life was aunt to Kayla, Ben, Linzee and Katie Alcaide. Services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, September 21st at the First Church of Christ, 25 The Great Road, Bedford, MA. A celebration of Kim's life will follow the service at The Gardens at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kim's memory to the Massachusetts General Hospital, Kim Alcaide Lohnes Ovarian Cancer Fund, Gyn Cancer Research Prog., 125 Nashua St, Ste 540, Boston, MA 02114.

Sending so much love to Kim's loved ones and special shout out for the people who wrote this stunning tribute--it totally captures the enormity of Kim's heart and her commitment to her 'people'. I knew Kim in high school and feel so lucky to have been able to see her in action then and to try to aim that high for success in academics, sports, peers, life and love. She was remarkable even then and her loss leaves a hole in the world that can't be filled. All my best and hope there is comfort knowing that Kim's legacy will be long and strong,
