Only happened upon this page now. Much saddened by Klaus' untimely passing. We were friendly. I knew him not only as a fellow German, but was his contact as buyer and publisher liaison at YBP Library Service (formerly Yankee Book Peddler) in Contoocook, NH until my retirement late 2004. One of the nicest people in our industry.

Dear Alice --
I only learned today of Klaus' death. I am so sorry. I first knew Klaus in the 60s, especially when he worked for Springer, and as a friend of Gerd Fischer whom I knew from his year as a grad student at Johns Hopkins. Klaus' death is a great loss to ethical math publishing, and certainly to all who knew him.
My sincere condolences, Charles Pugh

Dear Alice,
My looking around the internet on publishing made me think of the time I spent housekeeping for you and Klaus in your beautiful Waban home in the late 70s. I am so sorry to learn that Klaus has passed away, as I know how close you were.
You and Klaus had a unique and great partnership and I well remember how hard the two of you worked on your business. I had always thought your life was nuts, but wonderful, too. I also remember with a laugh how Klaus was always expecting me to learn German rather magically, even when neither of you were around during the day! : )
I remember you and the kids with great fondness and am sorry for your loss. A hug for you from a distance. - Jen

Dear Alice,
With great sorrow I knew that my old friend and publisher of my two books untimely passed away. He was the first person who has found my small brochure about Riemann written in Russian and suggested to translate and published in English. This project was very successful and the third edition was published . The second book Modern Mathematics in the light of Fields Medals was a great adventure and was published in AKPeters and now also was published in Russian and Japanise. Now I expended this edition and woudlike to discuss the problems with this new edition. I tried to find the new email of Klaus using Google and was shocked by the news of Klaus death. I would be happy to get your email address and to continue our contacts.
My email is [email protected]
Sincerely yours,
Michael Monastyrsky
P.S. I am going to be in the States in May, 2015

Alice,
So sorry to hear of Klaus's passing. As you know I considered him a friend as well as publisher extraordinaire; you and he (and Charlotte!) did a great job with my puzzle books, which were Klaus's idea to begin with. The world will miss his passion for books and his willingness to go out on a limb to help them see the light.

Very saddened indeed by the passing of this fine man, who served so long as a visionary force in mathematical publishing. Always insightful and practical, and unfailingly supportive of good ideas and young talent. Many will miss his gentle charm.

This is unbelievable, I communicated with Klaus as recently as June 27th and he said he was enthusiastically working with the AMS to develop a program in creative applications of mathematics.
He believed in my work and is responsible for making me a published author. I will forever be in debt to him for that. He will be missed greatly. Alice and family, please accept my deepest condolences. May his soul rest in peace.

Hi Alice. I was so sorry to learn of the sudden loss of your husband. Although I don't know your family my heart goes out to your children and grandchildren. Charlie has been our family's eye doc since my early 30's. There wasn't a time that I saw him that I didn't ask about you. Recently he told me about your success with the sale if your business. Hope I get to see you in the future. I think Charlie said you were thinking if moving back to city. Thinking of you. Take good care if yourself. All the best. Marjorie Starobin Wolff

I'll miss Klaus' enthusiasm for a good book, whether it was one he read or one he helped publish.

Alice, and family, my thoughts are with you. It was a joy to see both you and Klaus at various math exhibits and to talk about our grandchildren. I know Klaus will be missed by all who knew him.
