Shirley Crawford Obituary

CRAWFORD, Shirley Ann (Nelson) 75, of Huntington Common Drive, died early Saturday morning, June 13, 2009 at her residence following a long illness. She was born in Boston, MA on July 12, 1933, a daughter of Anthony J. Nelson and Doris M. (Neal) Nelson. She was educated locally and graduated from Wilmington High School, Class of 1950. On January 18, 1958, she married the love of her life, Douglas R. Crawford, Sr. Together they enjoyed 45 years of marriage until his death in 2003. Shirley was the consummate homemaker. In addition to raising her family, she enjoyed reading and gardening. One of her favorite things to do during the day was to enjoy a good cup of tea. She was an animal lover, especially of the many dogs she owned throughout the years. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Paul A. Nelson; 2 brothers-in-law, Joseph G. Duffy and Daniel T. Angell, Jr. Survivors include her son, Douglas R. Crawford, Jr. and his wife Katherine M. of Wells; two sisters, Eileen N. Duffy of Reading, MA, and Linda N. Angell of Haverhill, MA; her brother, Neal K. Nelson of North Sutton, NH; her sister-in-law, Mary A. Nelson of North Reading, MA; 3 grandchildren, Courtney, Anthony and Vincent, many nieces & nephews. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, where a Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk, where she will be laid to rest alongside her loving husband.
