You are a class act, Tom: always were. When my neck got broke in February, you, cancer sufferer undergoing chemo, took the time to call me and remind me that my troubles were nothing compared to others more seriously affected by disabilities. Sail on, ol’ Southie. Paul Harting, Albany, California

June 30, 2009

Fr. Tom,
Thank you for so many years of friendship to our family. You were always just a phone call away. Your devotion to the people of Southie always shown through and that will never be forgotten.
With love, the Fennessy/O'Brien Families

The McDonnell Family and Sister Peggy,

Through the leadership of Father Tom, we have been blessed in many ways! By looking beyond our disabilities, we are able to thank God for our blessings through suffering and sacrifice.

Father Tom you showed us the way! Thank you.

The Family, Sr. Peggy and Dear Friends of Father Tom,

We will miss your smile and your laugh. Your talks and displays, after each Gospel, how you could expalin to the Special Children and Adults so they new exactly what the Gospel was telling them. Most of all, your love, you never had to say it, it was there, it just flowed from you.
My family and I are so honored to have been a part of your life, it is something that will stay with us for ever and you will never be forgotten.
And your duet with Mr. Bulger of Me and My Shadow was a classic of its own.

Tommy, I just learned of your death and feel at once a sense of loss and another sense that your wise-cracking spirit is still with us. I am so glad that you came to most BC High reunions and I was able to stay in touch. I've always enjoyed being with you, hearing your views, and laughing at your witty approach to life, especially to yourself. I will miss you.

The Catholic Church has lost an exemplary priest and South Boston and my own family have lost a friend. He was always there when we needed him and in the last few years, just a phone call away. We will miss his distinct voice and caring way. You are in are prayers Fr. Mac.

I will never forget Fr. Tom. I have so many fond memories of him while attending school at St. Augustine's. I remember going to his final mass at St. A's and he ended it by saying he was the luckiest man alive. We were the lucky ones to have him in our lives.

I can just hear his voice bellowing now throughout Heaven now. God Bless.

This is from a classmate of Tom's from Rome, 1957-61 and 64-65. I was just at a class reunion this past week. Several had spoken to Tom before the get together. All remembered him with affection. We enjoyed his stories and good humor and large heart. We are proud of what he accomplished on his home field of South Boston. Part of his life will live with us as long as we are still around

To George, Sr. Immaculata and family, be assured of my prayers as we celebrate the life of a very special priest, a model of how to follow Jesus. He has enriched the lives of so many people in his prolific writings in the Pilot and other Catholic publicaions. For a 'kid' from Mattapan whom all thought he was headed for a career in baseball, he gave his life to the 'big league' of Ordained life just as the late Fr. Bill Commane did to the benefit of the Archdiocese of Boston.
His initiative as founder of many ministries, especially to benefit the underpriveliged, he truly walked in humiliy with God's children. It gave me great pleasure to serve with Fr. Tom and Sister Peggy at Thanksgiving and Christmas at St. Agustin's, where my grandmother was established in our faith as the church was built in the 1870's.
Well done good and faithful servant, enter now into the Kingdom of God.
Faithfully yours in Christ,
St. Gregory's 49er,
Rober G. Fraser

Requiescat in Pace Rev. Monsignor Thomas McDonald. Father Tom was a good friend to our family for many years. He was celebrant at my parent's wedding and baptised both my sister and myself. He was a true man of God and a wonderful representative for the Catholic Faith and the priesthood. As part of the Sacrament of Confirmation I took my Christian name of "Thomas" in part due to his example. May his soul and the souls of the faithfully departed in the glory of God rest in peace, Amen.
