Fischer, Diana B
Diana Fischer, 79, formerly of Hamden CT and most recently of Wellesley MA, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2013, surrounded by family and friends. Diana was born in Mount Vernon, NY the daughter of the late Henry William and Ruth Hile Bradbury of Springfield, NJ. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1956 and received her PhD in Biostatistics from Yale University in 1975. Diana taught at the Yale School of Public Health, was a researcher with Yale University School of Medicine Department of Therapeutic Radiology where she contributed to numerous publications in the advancement of cancer treatment, and later headed the Cancer Center's tumor registry. Diana was an active member of the community in Hamden, serving as president of the East Side Civic Association. In 1998, The State of Connecticut General Assembly presented Diana with an Official Citation "in recognition of her outstanding commitment and dedication to the good of her community for her efforts to preserve the environmental quality of the tidal wetlands of the Quinnipiac River." Diana was an avid gardener and devoted dog lover. She is survived by her children, Henry Fischer of Seattle, WA and Gwendolyn Magnan of Wellesley, MA as well as her grandchildren Edward, Charles, Elizabeth and Caroline to all of whom she was lovingly devoted. A private memorial service will be held in Wellesley when gardens are in full bloom. Diana would have appreciated any donations be made to either Massachusetts Horticultural Society (masshort.org or 900 Washington St Wellesley, MA 02482) or any Humane Society helping in the effort t towards the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or in lieu of donations, plant a flowering tree or shrub.
