Roland Landry Obituary

LANDRY, Roland J. 92, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 while visiting San Diego, CA. His two sons were by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Marcia Landry. Mr Landry was a WWII Vet. and for 50 years had loved living in Lexington since moving there in 1959. After retiring from the Postal Service, he enjoyed traveling to such diverse locations as Europe, the Middle East, Hawaii and the Caribbean. While he was proud of all of his life's experiences, his fondest memory dated back to his youth where he caddied for Babe Ruth three days in a row at New Hampshire's Bald Peak Country Club. "The Great Bambino" picked up the young Roland in a shining new Packard for the ride to the prestigious golf club, much to the surprise and envy of the other neighborhood boys. Mr. Landry always delighted in telling the story about his special encounter with one of Baseball's all time legends. After a life well lived, he is survived by his sons William and Robert, William's partner Marianne Ericsson, one granddaughter Laura, his long time friend Peggy Bateson and many other friends who will miss him dearly. As per his request, there will be no services and burial will be private. For those who wish, contributions in Mr. Landry's memory may be made to Lexington's Cary Memorial Library.
