Beverly J. Pilavin

PILAVIN, Beverly J. (Gorodetsky) Beloved wife, mother and sister succumbs to her year long battle with cancer, on Monday, July 6, 2009, in her home surrounded by her family. She will be missed by her devoted husband of 53 years Harold L. Pilavin, formerly of Sport Appliance, her 3 children Debbie Flanzbaum of Framingham, Tobi Pilavin-Weinstein of New Jersey and Steven Pilavin of New York, their respected spouses, 7 grandchildren, extended family, friends and colleagues. Beverly was the daughter of the late Ruth and Samuel Gorodetsky and the sister of the late Sumner Gorodetsky. She grew up on Castlegate Rd., Dorchester and was an honors graduate of the Boston Teachers' College. She taught full time, then, subsequent to starting her own family held a permanent substitute teaching position for almost 40 years in the Newton Public Elementary School System. Beverly worked until May 2009. She treasured her family, her students, her life as a teacher, both in and out of the classroom. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at 1pm at Stanetsky's Funeral Home, in BROOKLINE, MA. Shivah will be held directly following services through sundown Friday, July 10 at the home of Beverly and Harold Pilavin. Shivah will continue in New Jersey and New York at the homes of her children on Sunday and Monday July 12th & 13th.
