Sylvester Ray Obituary

RAY, Sylvester A. Of Marshfield, July 19, at home following a brief illness at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Catherine R. (Ruscoe) and the late Eleanor V. (Copponi). Father of Lawrence C. Ray and his fiancée Sheryl D. Sacchetine of Marshfield, Joseph M. Ray of FL. and Diane S. Valenti and her husband Michael of Marshfield. Brother of Charles M. Ray of Needham and Margaret R. Searles of Dedham. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and his daughter-in-law Jean M. Ray of Walpole. Brother of the late Michael, Patrick, Joseph, Angelo, William,Lawrence,Albert, Richard, Jennie Shamma, Mary Baker, Rose Harbester and Edith Ray. Born in Roslindale on July l2, l9l7, he was the son of Fiamilio and Olympia (Bevilaqua) Dello Iacono. Sylvester was a well known general contractor in West Roxbury, Marshfield and Plymouth. He was a Past Commander and senior life member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. A 67 year member of I.U.O.E.(Local 4) A founding member and officer of the Utility Contractor's Association of New England. Sylvester was an honorary member of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association. He was also a former Vice President and Director of Scituate Federal Savings Bank and a Director of Haymarket Co-op Bank. Sylvester was also a proud World War II Navy veteran. Funeral from the MacDonald Funeral Home, l755 Ocean St., Rte. l39, Marshfield, Saturday, July 25 at 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Christine's Church, l295 Main St., Marshfield at noon. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. Interment Marshfield Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sylvester's memory may be made to the Legionnaires of Christ, P.O. My father Al Coyte and Sylvester Ray were in the Ancient and Honorable artiliy company of Bostontogether. Mr & Mrs Ray became good friends to my late parents. We have fond memories of their travels together. Even seeing it in the paper does not make it believable. Sylvester was such a magnaminous man, he will live forever in the hearts of those who knew him. Please find comfort in knowing you gave him a peaceful and loving end of life. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
