Mr. Witherby's account of childhood at his family's Solvay, New York, estate, Upland Farm, was a great gift to people who lived in the neighborhood that was established as the estate was subdivided after World War II. The remaining physical evidence -- great houses, estate buildings, gardens, orchards, and woods, intrigued me as a child, and now I know their story. Thanks to him him and condolences to his extended family from one who spent his own childhood in the magical kingdom that was Upland Farm.
