JOHN GOULDING Obituary

Goulding, John Graham A longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 16, 2015, at age 91. John was born in Cambridge, one of two sons of the late Frederick C. Goulding and Ann Irene (Spaulding) Goulding. He was raised in Providence, Rhode Island and attended Providence College for two years before service to his country interrupted his studies. John served as a Naval Officer during WWII. At war's end, he continued his studies at Trinity College and later received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. After settling in Melrose, John embarked on a long, distinguished career in medicine. His affable nature, caring manner and fearless intellect earned him the trust and respect of his patients during his 50 year career. John's son Richard, an internist, joined him in practice for 25 years before John retired in 2005. John truly practiced family medicine with a strong knowledge across many medical disciplines including obstetrics, surgery and pediatrics. Dr. Goulding served as the President of the Massachusetts Osteopathic Society, was a founder of the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine and was the proud recipient of an honorary degree from that school. He served as Chairman of the Melrose Board of Health for over 35 years and was a member of the Ancient Mariners, a group of WWII Naval Officers. John was the beloved husband of Christine (Stone) Goulding with whom he shared 48 years of marriage, and the late Barbara A. (King) Goulding. Devoted father of Christopher J. Goulding and his wife Teresa, Richard K. Goulding, Pamela J. Reilly and her late husband John, Cynthia B. FitzGerald and her husband Duncan, Marc C. Goulding and his wife Aimee, and Nicholas G. Goulding and his wife Jessica. Dear brother of the late Frederick C. "Teddy" Goulding. Cherished grandfather of Gregory Goulding and his wife Emma, Christian Reilly and his wife Nikki, Scott Reilly and his wife Jennifer, Whitney FitzGerald and her fiance Nick Largura, Todd FitzGerald, Spencer FitzGerald, Nathaniel Goulding and Havia Goulding. Loving great-grandfather of Collin, Finn, Liam, Maggie, and John. Relatives and friends will gather in honor of John's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Sunday, February 22 from 2-6 PM, and again on Monday morning at 9AM before leaving in procession to the Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St., Melrose, for his Funeral Mass celebrated at 10AM. Interment with military honors presented by the US Navy in Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge. Gifts may be made to the Dr. John G.
