Erickson, Paul Matthew Of Charlestown, Massachusetts died suddenly at Massachusetts General Hospital on June 2, 2015 at the age of 66. A native of Paxton, Massachusetts Paul was the devoted son of Catherine and Frank Erickson and brother to Joyce Erickson. After graduating from St. John's high school he attended and graduated in 1970 from The Citadel , one of the six senior military colleges in the United States, with a Bachelor of Arts in Eastern European History and Russian Language. He subsequently entered the US Army and achieved the rank of Captain by the time of his honorable discharge in 1973. A distinguished career in the insurance industry followed until his decision to retire in 2003. At that time he was the president of the PLI Brokerage of Massachusetts and a regional vice president of the New Jersey Corporation. Paul's dry sense of humor and relentless support of the New York Yankees often got him into hot water with friends and colleagues. He never wavered. In 1996 Paul and Jeanette Ives married and embarked on a life together that was full of family, friends, world travel, and the Massachusetts General Hospital, where Jeanette is senior vice president for patient care services and the chief nurse and Paul was a dedicated ambassador. A beautifully restored brownstone in Charlestown, a home in Kennebunkport, Maine, and a new condo in Fort Lauderdale also kept them busy. Paul Erickson is survived by his wife Jeanette Ives Erickson of Charlestown, Massachusetts, his sister Joyce Erickson, and the extended Ives family of Maine and Florida. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015 from 3-7 pm at the Boston Harborside Home, 580 Commercial St, Boston. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, June 6th at 9 am at Old North Church, 193 Salem St, Boston. Burial will be private. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paul Erickson's memory to the Nursing & Patient Care Services fund at Massachusetts General Hospital by mailing checks to the Development Office, 100 Cambridge St., suite 1310, Boston, MA 02114. Paul's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the hundreds of well-wishers who have taken the time to describe what Paul meant to them and to thank the talented clinicians at the Massachusetts General Hospital for the great care he received there over the years and especially on what became the last night of his life. He was a fine man and he will be missed by many. Those who are inclined can remember him with a good cigar and a well-made Maker's Mark Manhattan.
