CHARLES EICHER Obituary

Eicher, Charles "Charlie" N. 66, a long time resident of Newbury, passed away peacefully Friday morning at Tufts Medical Center after a valiant, thirty year fight with heart disease. Born in East Boston, he was one of nine children of the late James and Marie (Rose) Eicher of Stoneham, MA. Charlie is survived by his four children: Toby and wife Cristy of Albuquerque, NM; James and wife Nicole of North Reading, MA; Amy and husband Derek of Glendale, CA; and Erik of Malden, MA. He also leaves behind his fiancee, Kate Higgins of Newbury, MA, and her daughter, Sarah Julia LeBlanc of Brooklyn, NY. He was "Papa Charlie" to James' children, Codi and Jake Eicher. Charlie is also survived by his eight siblings (James, Donna, John, Judy, Thomas, Marie, William, and Helen) and his many nieces and nephews. Charlie was a graduate of Stoneham High School class of 1967, where he excelled at track. An electrician by trade, Charlie retired from IBEW Local 103 in 2007. He was a nineteen year member of the Elks and a member and former president of the Essex County Sportsmen's Association. When not working or cracking jokes, Charlie could always be found on the water. From his active childhood summers in Truro, Cape Cod, to his later years relaxing on the Parker River, he was at home on the coast. His family would like to extend deep appreciation to Lahey Clinic, Sidney Alexander MD, David M. Vanesy MD, Bruce Hook MD, Melissa Mavroides NP, and Kay A. Fitch MD (Anna Jacques Hospital). Donations in Charlie's honor can be made to the American Heart Association. A celebration of life is planned for the fall of this year. "I did it my way." -Frank Sinatra

Charlie was a friend from way back from grammar school, middle school, and high school. Coming from a large family in Stoneham he was well known. I knew him from Cape Cod too. My family had a place in Wellfleet with another large family from Stoneham the Forests'. Over the years we would run into each other. I live in Reading ,I saw him in North Reading now and then . Thanks to email and now face book , we kept in touch. He had posted a picture just a few weeks ago. I thought he was home recuperating. He was the cutest surfer boy. In the eighth grade he dated my neighbor Betsy Palmer.... I had a crush on his friend Allen Leland... Those of us from Stoneham remember those days. I know how proud he was of his family. He touched so many of us. I would like to come to the service in the fall. Even though he is gone he will always be around in my memories. I know his spirit will be with all of us, watching over and sending signs that he is around. He's a Angel now smiling down on us. Rest in peace sweet Charlie ! Always Kitty

Dear Charlie, You were the fun one. Always on an adventure, taking the high road, bringing your humor and big grins with you. You packed it all into your shortened life and I am pretty sure you have no regrets. Well, when you see me coming and your other friends and relatives, put a good word in for us because we'll need it. Until we are all together again, show them how it's done.
