One of the last things that Jean Hill said was, Pick your battles and fight em. These were the words that she lived and died by. She lived in Concord, Massachusetts, home of the American Revolution and the shot heard round the world. A proud Concordian, Jean would always say, I want to fire the second shot heard round the world. And so she did. She learned of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and wanted to do her part to help. Believing its unnecessary product should be banned, she started a crusade and took on the billion-dollar, bottled water industry. She preached the fact that empty bottled water containers are one of the largest pollutants to planet Earth. The battle lasted three years. And then a second shot was heard round the world. State legislation banning the sale of single-serving plastic water bottles passed in Concord, Massachusetts on April 26, 2012
On her 90th birthday, while in hospice Jean laughed, I'm gonna keep going till I'm all used up.
To our friend Jean: As you go on to the land where there are no plastic water bottles, we want you to know that you are not used up. You started a ripple effect, and continue to inspire cities, universities and national parks to ban bottled water. You give hope to the people that with a little disciple, you can start a revolution.
Like a stone in the water, and the rings going around it.
