Harriett Buettner Obituary

Harriett M. Buettner, 100, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2015, at Hyalite Country Care. She was born June 6, 1914, to Wales and Bessie (Bullard) Lillard on Gooch Hill. She moved to the Fort Ellis area where she spent her childhood, graduating from Gallatin County High School. Harriet was a 4-H leader prior to marrying William (Bill) Buettner. They had one daughter, Billye.

As a homemaker she did beautiful handwork, and was an expert seamstress. She enjoyed participating in and was a longtime member of the Fort Ellis Women's Club, DAR, Eastern Star, White Shrine, APM Club of Kappa Delta, and Hope Lutheran Church.

She had a real passion for babysitting infants and young children and had the opportunity to love and nurture many. When Harriett wasn't taking care of children, she crocheted hats for the newborn babies at the hospital.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; and brother, Loren Lillard. She is survived by her daughter, Billye (Dale) Storey of Casper, Wyoming; grandson William (Nichol) Storey; and 2 great-granddaughters, Abigail and Brielle Storey of Gillette, Wyoming.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in Bozeman.

Harriet has been a constant in our lives since she started taking care of Cole when he was 4 months old. He's 21 now and Harriet influenced him in many ways, helping him become the fine young man he is today. Thanks Harriet. We'll miss your laugh and your wit and your "can do" attitude. You will always have a special place in our hearts. Love, Kay Van Norman-Gebhardt and George, Cole and Brock Gebhardt
