John Lane Obituary

John A. Lane, 89, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at Salem Village Nursing Home. John was born in Three Forks, Montana, to the late John C. and Elizabeth (Finnegan) Lane at the family ranch. He resided in Joliet, Illinois, since 1956, a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. After his service, he attended Carroll College in Helena for two years and then transferred to Notre Dame University at South Bend, Indiana. He graduated in 1951 and became a teacher at Washington Junior High School and Romeoville High School, retiring in 1993. He was chosen as teacher of the year several times while at Romeoville. Following retirement, John was a substitute teacher at Timber Ridge Junior High School and Heritage Grove Junior High School. He was a member of Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus Parish, Notre Dame Club, and American Federation of Teachers. John was a collector of Irish humor.

Preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Thomas Lane and his sister, Laura (Lane) Myers. John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Virginia "Ginny" (Marshal) Lane of Plainfield, Illinois; his son, Kevin (Georgette) Lane of Plainfield; two grandchildren, Sean Lane of Washington, D.C. and Jessica (Andrew) Jackson of Toulon, Illinois; two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Dean Jackson; one brother, Robert Lane of Three Forks, Montana; numerous nieces and nephews.

Vigil service will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Three Forks on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. Fr. Joseph Finnegan will celebrate the Mass of Resurrection at 10 a.m. Sept. 24 also at Holy Family with internment at Fairview Cemetery, Three Forks.
