A cherished friend and a formidable foe on the racquetball court. Thanks for the smiles.

He was a great professor and I'm grateful for my time with him. No bells and whistles, and he expected us to own our own learning. Yet underneath all of that, a big heart. Having seen his share of sadness, he was still able to bring to joy into every day. I loved his comparisons of Montana culture to growing up in New England and his years in Boston. I remember him saying that when someone pulls their car over to the side of the road here, three more pull over within minutes with offers of help. In Boston, he said they're just relieved to see one less car on the road and keep driving! Still makes me smile. Rest in peace.

Arthur will certainly be missed at Resurrection University Catholic Church where he was a fixture every Saturday late afternoon. He was a very pleasant and dependable and helpful man. May God grant him eternal rest with his daughters and Gertrude.

Arthur and Gertrude were treasured friends for many years. We'll miss his gentle spirit, his faith-filled life, and of course his sense of humor, as evidenced not only in his obituary but in the e-mail we received from him on Nov. 12. Chandler, please send us contact information for yourself. We'd like to write you personally. "[email protected]"

Arthur was an important mentor to me. He invited me, as a young student affairs staff member, to serve on the Honors Program Committee in 1980. I really enjoyed working with him when he served in the Office of the Provost beginning in the 90s He was a cool guy.

Fond memories of Arthur's quiet humor. I had the pleasure of working for Arthur while he served as Vice Provost of Academic Affairs at MSU.
