Modesto Borrego Obituary

Modesto Garza Borrego Jr., 75, our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a valiant fight against Alzheimer's.

Born on April 5, 1936, Moe as he was affectionately known to all was a lifetime resident of Brownsville. Moe served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Air Force.

Moe worked for The Brownsville Herald, the city of Brownsville as a firefighter for several years and after leaving the fire department; he began a career that lasted 15 years with the Texas State Department of Human Resources.

Moe enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys but what he loved most was getting together and spending time with family and friends. Moe had a great sense of humor and you could always go to him for a good joke and to make you laugh. Moe was greatly loved and will be profoundly missed by all those who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Modesto and Beatriz Borrego; a sister, Maria del Carmen Borrego; three brothers, Juan Manual, Reynaldo Juan, and Adalberto Borrego; a sister-in-law, Zulema R. Zarate; and three brothers-in-law, Herman Rodriguez Jr., Tomas Rodriguez, and Norberto Zarate.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his wife, of 50 years, Dora R. Borrego; his children, Martha Elena Wadhwani and Marco Antonio (Marcy) Borrego; the grandchildren that were his pride and joy, Christopher (Hope) Wadhwani, Alina Wadhwani, Marco Antonio Borrego Jr., Modesto Adrian, Marissa Alyssa, Manuel Alberto, and Marlena Alexyss Borrego; and two great-grandchildren, Christian Andres Wadhwani and Renee Brianna Borrego. He will also be missed by his sisters, Beatriz (Mario+) Gutierrez, Rosalinda (Ted+) Rinehart, and Mary (Johnny) Cavazos; his brothers, George (Vicky) Borrego and Arturo (Coco) Borrego; two sisters-in-law, Domitila Borrego and Corina Borrego, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, Dec. 15, and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday evening in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in El Ranchito, Texas. Interment will follow at Rodriguez Cemetery in El Ranchito.

Honored to be serving as Moe's pallbearers are her grandsons: Christopher Wadhwani, Marco Antonio Borrego Jr., and Modesto Adrian Borrego; and his nephews, Alex "Tato" Ayala, Noe Zarate, Carlos Borrego, Ronnie Canales, and Gilbert Salazar.

Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers, George and Arturo Borrego; the rest of the grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Juan G. Rodriguez, Texas state Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr., Cameron County Clerk Joe G. Rivera, and Remberto Arteaga.

The American Legion Post 43 Funeral Honor Guard under the direction of Commander Raul Leal will be providing military honors at the graveside.
