Judith Bradford VAN LIEW

VAN LIEW - Judith Bradford (nee Litchfield) Age 83, of Barnstable, MA, passed away July 8, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Gerald and Eleanor (Vinson) Litchfield. She grew up in Lexington, MA, and received a Bachelor's degree at Bates College, a Master's degree at the University of Washington, Seattle, and a Doctoral degree in Physiology at the University of Rochester, NY. She was Professor of Physiology on the faculty of the State University of New York at Buffalo for 30 years, teaching and doing scientific research, with specialization in diseases of the kidney. She is author or coauthor of 62 research papers published in respected scientific journals. Judy was active in the school her children attended, the Park School of Buffalo; she was a member of the board of trustees of the school for 15 years, serving as president of the board for three of those years. In retirement, she moved to Barnstable. She became active with Wild Care of Cape Cod, a wildlife rehabilitation center, and served as chair of the organization's board of trustees. She is survived by her husband, Hugh D. Van Liew of Barnstable; three children, Gregory S. Van Liew (Jennifer Kerns) of Seattle, WA, Andrea B. Van Liew (Jill Richard) of Essex Junction, VT and Joel G. Van Liew (Rev. John Denaro) of Brooklyn, NY; a niece, Ann Edens (John) of Long Valley, NJ; a nephew, John Hagelbarger of Portland, OR; five grandchildren; a grandniece and grandnephew.
