INDEPENDENCE– Glen Tutwiler, 85, died Wednesday, August 2010 at West Village Care Center in Independence where he had been a resident for the last year.
He was born in Lincoln, Ill to Irma Bressmer and George B. Tutwiler. After graduation from high school in Mt Pulaski, Ill, Glen joined the Marine Corps and served one tour. During his military service, he met and married Betty Peyton of Independence and later took up residence there. Glen attended Iowa State University and later worked for John Deere in Waterloo until being reactivated during the Korean War. After the war, he returned to Independence and was employed for 30 years at Leytze's Furniture Store.
Glen is survived by his wife Betty; son Charles and wife Christine; daughter Sharon (Tutwiler) Wendling; 3 grandchildren, John Tutwiler and wife Sue; David Tutwiler; Elizabeth (Tutwiler) Guidry and husband Bobby; and one great grandchild, Autumn Guidry.
He was preceded in death by his mother Irma (Bressmer) Tutwiler Brooks; his father George Tutwiler; step father Lester Brooks; and granddaughter Angela (Tutwiler) Cameron.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA. with Rev. John Hougen officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 8 A.M. till services Saturday at the funeral home. .
