Xanthos Corytsas Obituary

Xanthos Costas Corytsas ("Gus" "Chef") of Williston, Vermont passed away on Friday December 11, 2015. Gus was born on November 6, 1925 in Patriki Cyprus - son of Costas and Helen Corytsas. He immigrated aboard the SS Veedam arriving in the United States on July 3rd, 1948 after spending a brief time in England. He married his wife, Jacqueline, on June 21, 1952, and raised 3 children, Helen Shepard, Christine LaPointe, and Costas Corytsas. He served in WWII in the British army in northern Africa. Gus worked as a chef for many years and was a proprietor of a number of restaurants including The Grinder House in South Burlington and Costas' Restaurant in Waterbury.
Gus loved spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. Telling stories of the old country and spending time with family. Gus was predeceased by his brother Koullis and his sister Angeliki. Gus leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Jacqueline Corytsas, his daughters Helen and her husband Gary Shepard, Christine and her husband Bill LaPointe, and son Costas Corytsas. Grandchildren, Travis and wife Patricia Shepard, Tara Libby, Angela LaPointe, Emily and husband Josh Clouatre, and Hilary and husband Preston Stradtner. Great Grandchildren, Cassandra and Breanna Libby, Mikaela and Gabriella Shepard, Kaitlin Gokey, and Laura and Abigail Clouatre. He also leaves behind his sisters Maroulla and Dora living in Cyprus and several nieces, nephews and cousins
The family would like to thank the staff of The University of Vermont Medical Center and Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care.
Services will be held at Gifford Funeral Home in Richmond. Visiting hours are Thursday December 17th from 4 – 7 PM. Services are Friday at the Gifford funeral Home at 1100AM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

Chris, you must know how saddened I am to learn of your Dad's passing. He was one of the first people I met when I moved to Burlington sixty years ago and I cherish many fond memories of our friendship over the years. He will be missed.
