To this day I remember my first class with Professor Ambrose; an intro to Music History. And I was hooked. She was the reason my life changed so dramatically as a wide-eyed freshman at UVM. I will always be grateful for having been one of her students.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Jane's death. It seemed only a short while ago that she passed through the library and we had a chance to catch up a bit. She was such a vibrant human being with a keen interest in everyone around her. Our chats in our 5:45 a.m. water aerobics class were like mini-seminars on how to convert your passion (hers for music, mine for puppets) into running healthy non-profit endeavors. I will miss her and that beautiful smile. My condolences to all her family.

I just got back from a three week visit to Kentucky. I was shocked and saddened to learn of Jane's passing. I worked in the Lane Series office for many years and I was so impressed with her dedication, knowledge, love of music, and her wonderful sense of humor. My condolences go out to all of her family. May all their wonderful memories help to sustain them. When I count my blessings, I count Jane twice. I will miss her.

Jane was a force - as an educator, musician, mother and boss. I worked with Jane for many years at the UVM Lane Series, during a time when the Series was not nearly as stable as it is today. Jane's vision, musical knowledge and apt programming skills helped to keep this UVM treasure alive. I have enormous respect for her. My sincere condolences to her daughters, Lisa and Julie, and their families.

I will ever celebrate Jane's life as I listen to the music of Sequentia. She shared her passions and knowledge with the myriad of Lane Series patrons. Our lives are richer for it.

Dear all,
Thank you for posting this so those of us who are far from out Vermont roots have been able to hear of Dr. Ambrose's passing. Jane was a wonderful woman. Her ready smile, enthusiasm, and curiosity made her such an inspiring teacher and mentor. It was always a delight to run in to her on my trips back home. I will always treasure my memories of Jane and wish you peace in your loss.

I'm very sad that Jane is no longer with us. She was one of the first people I met when I moved to Vermont in the early '70's - and the discovery of the UVM Baroque Ensemble made my early years here so much more delightful. What a life she had here in northern VT - she wore quite a lot of hats, and wore them so well. Good times! This is a big change, but she's not gone - she's still here in my remembrance, and here she'll stay, as long as I'm here - and a good deal longer than that, I'm sure! Thinking of you all who knew and loved her.

Phil and I are keeping Jane's loved ones in our prayers. We remember our four years at St. Anselm's while attending UVM. Jane introduced us to Baroque and Lane Series, newly found
interests that we continue to pursue
to this day in our music and performance choices. Thank you Jane!

I am beyond sorry and devastated. The world is a poorer place without Jane. Family and Bach must have been a great comfort, but there'll never be another Jane.

How sad that such a vibrant and enthusiastic woman should be taken from us. Jane and Eva were in my water aerobic classes at the Edge. We were all excited about her trips to Europe and waited eagerly to hear of her experiences when she returned. John and I enjoyed a dinner with Jane and Eva shortly after their marriage and I know how happy she was. I will miss her immensely. Linda Lake

Our deepest sympathy to her family. I first met Jane as a student at the UVM Music Department in the 70s where she always had that huge smile and was just a joy to be around. Her contributions to Vermont's music and cultural community as a musician and her work with the Lane Series promoting the arts in Vermont will be greatly missed. What I will miss most of all is bumping into her at Costco or the Grocery store and her wonderful smile and hugs she always gave to me and my special needs son Daniel. We would always remember how she would ask me to watch over her daughter while she was teacing her class at the old Music Department....and would always have to bring up how her beautful children had grown up and had children of their own. I think she enjoyed making me feel old...but that is what we loved about her! God Bless you Jane and rest in peace. You will be greatly missed. Lloyd, Margo and Daniel Goodrow

I was saddened to read about Jane's passing. After many years we reconnected last year at my hardware store in Waterbury. Jane was my professor at Trinity College, where she taught a music class for teachers. At our meeting I shared with her how I used many of the music skills she taught me during my teaching career. I feel fortunate to have shared my appreciation with her. Please accept my sincere condolences. The Burlington area is fortunate to have benefited from her contribution to the arts.

I was very sad to hear of Jane's passing. I know Jane from early morning water aerobics. I always enjoyed talking to Jane about books, her travels, and current events. Of course, the most interesting conversations was around Jane's kids and grandchildren. She was so very proud of them. Whenever I ran into Jane, she always asked about my kids and grandkids and remembered them by name. I know that she touched the lives of many people. Please know that Jane and her family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I was saddened to hear of Jane's passing. I worked with her for many years in the UVM Music Dept. I was always so impressed with her dedication to teaching and her musical research. As director of the Lane Series she discovered and brought many new young Early Music groups to the area that were a delight to hear. She was a good friend and will be dearly missed.

I feel a great sense of loss after learning of
Jane's passing. She was not only a colleague but a dear friend. Jane was a brilliant scholar and an accomplished flautist. She and I had both studied with James Pappoutsakis of the Boston Symphony.
Jane loved her family, her friends and the Baroque Period. To think the Bach b minor Mass was one of the last compositions she listened to brings both tears of sadness and joy. Phil, Eva and family my prayers are with you.

To Eva, Lisa, Julie and Phil,
I met Jane when I was and undergrad and she was a graduate student at UVM back in 1962-63. Somehow we remained friends and in touch on and off for all those many years. It might be 2 years before our paths would cross but it would seem like 2 days. She was a scholar, accomplished musician and respected by all whoever knew her. Her warm smile and sense of humor was an added plus to her leadership and legacy. My deepest condolences to you all, she will be missed.
