JOHN ARUZZA Obituary

JOHN ARUZZA SURRY, VA / HUNTINGTON - John Aruzza, 77, of Surry, Va., formerly of Huntington, died on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 in Williamsburg, Va., with his loving family by his side. He was born in Winooski on April 29, 1932, the son of the late Michael and Anna (DiNova) Aruzza. John was educated in the Winooski School System and graduated from Vermont Technical College in Randolph. He served his country for two years in the US Army. John married Anne Jarvis on July 21, 1956 in Randolph. She predeceased him on Feb. 11, 1971. He operated Jim's Italian Restaurant in Winooski with his sister Rachel, owned and operated John's Exxon in Essex and retired from IBM. John loved fishing, gardening, and agriculture in general. He loved cooking and was always cooking for his family and the church in Hinesburg. John is survived by his five children, Theresa Purinton and her fiancé Joel Provoncha of Monkton, Kathy Longworth and her husband Buddy of Northfield Falls, John Aruzza and his wife Robin of South Burlington, Stephen Aruzza of Burlington, and Michael Aruzza and his wife Ann of Winooski; 13 grandchildren; 4 greatgrandchildren; sisters, Josephine Aruzza, Theresa Santimore, Nancy Deforge; brothers, Sam Aruzza, Michael Aruzza, Anthony Aruzza; brother-in-law, Henry Darling; close family friends Marlene McDonald and her children, Kevin McDonald and his wife Gayla, and Lisa Shearer and her husband Douglas; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by two granddaughters, Jessica Smith and Holly Longworth; one great-granddaughter, Haley Lemiere; his bothers and sisters, Ralph Aruzza, Patrick Aruzza, Rachel Mohan, Carmella Darling, and Joseph Aruzza. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski. Visiting hours will be on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. in LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 121 Connor Way, Williston, VT 05495 or St. Jude Children's Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program-F, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
