Lil is still in our hearts. We think of her every time we pass the store, and still refer to it as "Desso´s." Lil will ever be a part of us...how we care for others, notice when something is needed, listen, lend a hand. By her compassionate example, Lil gave Jericho and Underhill a caring attitude and a deep and abiding sense of community. May Lil go from strength to strength in the Light of Love.

Sorry to hear about Lil's passing. I worked with her at Smilie back in 2003-2004, plus later when I was a substitute teacher. I'm sorry to have missed the service; I just recently learned of her death and only then learned she had been sick. She was a tender soul, who will be missed by all who knew her.

We are so sad to hear of your loss. And what a tremendous loss. Lil was a very special person, who was never seen without a smile. I have so many fond memories of my childhood in Jericho and the many trips to "Dessos Store". . . always a highlight of our days. She was always so kind to us kids, and as we grew up and went our own way, she still kept in touch with us with her very special Christmas cards. She was so kind to our family, especially during the time we dealt with the loss of our older brother. You, of course, know more than we do of how special Lil was, may these memories of her fill your hearts with peace. I feel blessed and thankful to have known her. Gerry and family,
We were so sorry to hear of Lil's passing, and wanted to extend our sympathy at this difficult time. From you two decorating our truck for the bicentennial parade to her waiting on our table at the chicken pie supper to saying 'Hi' at Fryeburg Fair, we never saw Lil but what it was a pleasure. We remember all the kind deeds while running Desso's Store, the emergency open hours to provide us with gasoline in the middle of the night, the food for our firefighters after a long emergency call and most of all the dedication of answering the Red Phone Emergency Hot Line for all of Underhill and Jericho. Lil was a very special person to all of us and will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Desso's was a staple of my childhood that I have never forgotten. Especially the time that Lil was able to pull ping pong balls from one of the glorious drawers in the store. Thank you for all of the memories and my condolences to your family. God Bless!!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

The Desso Family, prayers to you all,Lil was a wonderful person i remember her always smiling when i went to the store and when she worked at smile school she was a wonderful addtion to the school my kids loved her so, god has given wings to a great lady she'll be missed.

Our hearts are with Gerry and all Lil's loved ones, joining those who love Lil and benefited in so many ways by her kindness, hospitality and generosity. Our family's history was enriched by trips to Desso's in our growing up years: the 15 cents Drawer, coffee and donuts on the way to work, picking up the mail from our PO Box (even on a Sunday), Hallowe'en, the Christmas Room, the coveted tin of Christmas cookies, cards at birthdays and other special moments, book signings and so much more. We came to love Jericho because we loved Desso's Store, and Lil was the heart of Desso's. We recall how the luminarias around the green on Christmas Eve would choke her up. We recall the time a child came in after school for candy and Lil dialed the child's mom for permission, how she would let children put toys on layaway. Her way of approaching Community was a great role model and teacher. Her legacy is in each one of us, and we are grateful for a life kindly lived.
May Lil rest in peace and always be in our hearts. ♥

Lil was our inspiration. She was so compassionate and was always there for us. It was a great pleasure to learn from her. Lil was such a beautiful person and the memory of her and your family being part of my growing up years is something I cherish greatly. Funny thing is, when I was a kid I truly thought she was Loretta Lynn:) Thanks for the smiles you all, especially Lil brought to so many kids faces...she is the reason I love "swedish fish".
