CAROL BUTLER Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 4, 2009.
CAROL BUTLER (JALBERT) ITHACA, N.Y. - Carol Butler (Jalbert), age 53, of Ithaca, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at her home in Cayuga Heights. She was born in West Stewartstown, N.H. on June 16, 1956. She graduated from Canaan Memorial High School, class of 1974. Carol received her Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, in 1980, with a focus in Dance Education. On Feb. 8, 1980, she married John Butler. She devoted much of her life to her family as a loving mother and wife. She also spent much of her life immersed in the study of human anatomy and physiology. Carol was a private Pilates instructor and owned her own business, CoreBalance of Ithaca. Carol was certified as a Reiki Master and had a natural gift for healing. She also studied the healing arts of aromatherapy, massage, and active isolated stretching. She used her gifts to help friends and family members with all manners of ailment; from bodily strains to emotional challenges. She was also a gifted dancer. She studied ballet at Point Park College in Pittsburg, Pa. prior to attending BYU. Carol also studied modern dance and Indian classical dance. She took up competitive ice dancing and won several regional awards when she was in her forties. Carol was a very spiritual woman and embraced a unity of all basic truths of many faiths including Roman Catholic, Latter Day Saints, Native American, and Eastern thought. Carol had a vibrant way of living and while in her fifties, was often mistaken for a woman in her twenties. She was a well respected and giving member of her community. She will be dearly missed by all those whom she touched. She is survived by her husband John Butler of Ithaca; her children, Hans (Rebekah Scott) Butler, Ian Butler, Emily Butler, and Joseph Butler; a granddaughter, Beatrice Collins; her mother Yvette Jalbert; her brothers, Michael Jalbert (Sandy), Dr. Ronald (Nancy) Jalbert, Bernard (Carol Jones) Jalbert; her sisters, Rejeanne Jalbert and Captain Monique Petrofsky (U.S. Public Health Services). She is also survived by many extended family members and close friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Ithaca, N.Y. Interment and a spring memorial service will be held in her hometown of Canaan, Vt. on her 54th birthday, June 16, 2010. Memorials may be made in Carol's honor to the Carol Butler Charitable Gift Fund, Tompkins Investment Services, P.O. Box 6639, Ithaca, NY 14851-6639.

Carol,

I was deeply saddened to hear of your loss and it is hard to believe that one year has passed. Even though we never had an opportunity to know one another it is always inspiring to hear of people who live life to the fullest and make things happen, the world can never have enough of them. May it comfort you to know that so many people care and are thinking of you and your family at this time. Peace, prayers and blessings.

My first memory of carol was when she lived in Beecher Falls, VT in the 1960's and she taught me a little tune on the piano she titled "Butterfly".She's a beautiful lady.

You can never be lost.
When have you ever been apart from me?
You can never depart and never return.
For we are continuous, indistinguishable.

Our body is light, we are immortal.
Our body is love, we are eternal.
Eternal...
Omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, without judgment.

A month ago today, tonight, and tomorrow were your last days here in this mortal world. All of us who feel your presence still hope and pray for your safe passage to the places we all go on our way. God speed you in The Way. Your eyes are opened. See us. We who remain. Love lights the way, always. We are weary. We are hurting. May God bless and keep you. Help the healing.

Dear Carol,
I still love you so much. No one ever had a mother-in-law as pretty, as sweet or at all like you. I will remember you every day and look at you often, and love your children who remind me of you.
Thanks for being my friend.

Dearest Sister, God speed on your new journey. I know that you are in one of God's preferred mansions, where no earthly tribulations can touch you. We are doing our best here to fill the void you've left with your children. Please know that they will be loved and cared for and our siblings and I will do whatever we can to lighten their loss and sorrow. I miss the thought that we will never get to take that trip to India we sometimes talked about to visit sacred sites. Hopefully in our next lifetime we will meet again in that sacred land. Love divine, your sister Rejeanne.

Carol was a friend and classmate. I am thankful that we were able to see each other in 2004 (class reunion). In looking back through my yearbooks, Carol always wrote something to the effect of never giving up on my music. Carol definitely followed her own advise and lived her dream of dancing to the fullest. She was an incredibly talented and loving individual.

I will always remember Carol as the kind gentle soul with the cute giggle and quiet calming demeanor. My sincerest sympathies to the Butler and Jalbert families.

Dear Butler Family, Having read the obit for Carol in our local paper, I had no idea I would find myself connected to someone who would have seemed a stranger. But in fact I am. I teach yoga to Yvette at the Converse Home in Burlington. When I asked her yesterday why she seemed tired, she said she was sad and proceeded to tell me this very tragic tale. We sat and she cried and I tried my best to console her, though my words felt so hollow considering the depths of her loss. She seemed to find peace in knowing her daughter is now with her dad. Please accept my sympathies for this hugely heart breaking loss for you all.

My heart has been filled with sadness at the news of Carol's untimely passing. Carol taught me the values of good parenting, respect, forgiveness, and love for all humankind. I feel very fortunate to have spent some of my teen years knowing her and some time last fall when a simple hello became a full fun conversation with my children at the Farmers Market. I know that is just the way Carol was, and I will treasure that moment as a Gift. My condolences to the entire Butler and Jalbert families.

An excerpt from-- We Moon 09'
I sat down looking upward and listening to the stars... a language of pure vibration... one said to me:
"Know at this moment as I kiss you with light sent across a thousand million galaxies of time, that you have been and forever be wise, ancient and brilliant."

I feel so fortunate to have walked the Treman trail in Ithaca with Carol last month when I made a visit to Ithaca. I so enjoyed talking with her, and was struck by her spiritual maturity and kindness. I first got to know Carol about 25 years ago when she was a teacher in the Young Women program of the Mormon church in Ithaca. She was a wonderful example to us girls then, always has been since and will continue to be for me as I reflect on her memory. Joseph, John and all of Carol's family and friends, you are in my prayers.
