DANIEL PETER HARRIS - SOUTH HERO/ WINOOSKI - Daniel Peter Harris, 63, of South Hero, died suddenly Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, in connection with a car accident on Route 2 in South Hero. Born in Colchester, on Nov. 9, 1950, Danny was the son of Walter and Nolia (Couillard) Harris. He graduated from Winooski High School in 1968, and from Champlain College in 1971. On Jan. 28, 1993, Danny was married to Elizabeth "Betsy" Myers Harris on Paradise Island, Bahamas. At the time of his death, Danny was working as a maintenance supervisor at Premier Coach, where he had been employed for more than 20 years. Prior to that, he worked for many years at Vermont Transit. Danny was happiest sitting on the beach, with Betsy, reading a good Stephen King novel. He was an avid NY Giants fan and loved to watch football. Danny was an honest, faithful, and hardworking man. He assisted with the collections at St. Rose of Lima Church in South Hero every Saturday. Anyone who knew Danny was certainly a better person for having known him and for being around him. Danny is survived by his wife, Betsy Myers Harris; mother, Nolia Harris; siblings and their spouses, Walter Harris (Jacqueline), Diane Harris Laberge (Paul), Stephen Harris (Wendy Goodrich), Michael Harris (Stephanie), and Kelly Holbrook (Gary); mother-in-law, Joanne Myers; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Gerry and Lisa Myers, Dan and Lori Myers, Pete and Louise Myers, Dave and Laurel Myers, and Dale Collins; godchildren, Caleb Daniel Harris and Paul W. Laberge; aunts, Blanche Zeno and Joyce Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Walter J. Harris Sr.; father-in-law, Gerald "Joe" Myers; sister-in-law, Mary-Lou Collins; and many aunts and uncles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Winooski. Arrangements are with the LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St. in Winooski. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to South Hero Volunteer Fire Dept., or South Hero Rescue, PO Box 150, South Hero, VT 05486.

Unbelievable. I couldn't believe it when I heard my cousin passed away. I hadn't seen him since we were little kids. We have gotten lost living out our lives. Growing up with Dan as my uncle and godfather brought many fond memories. Going fishing, playing cards or just shooting the breeze about sports into the late hours, he brought a young boy joy and happiness. Heaven will be a better place with him there.
