Roy Neer Obituary

Roy H. Neer Jr.
Roy Herbert Neer Jr., 87, of Slippery Rock Township died Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Lexington, Mo., Sept. 14, 1923, he was the son of Roy Herbert Neer Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Fisher.
He married Irmtraud "Irmie" Lauf on Oct. 17, 1968.
He retired in 1994 as owner and CEO of the Mill Equipment & Engineering Corp. in Lawrenceville. He also raised Limousin cattle on the Quail Run Ranch in Slippery Rock and did engineering consulting from 1994 until present.
He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons in Syracuse, N.Y.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving on the submarines and was on a submarine that escorted the USS Missouri during the official surrender of Japan that ended World War II.
He enjoyed skeet shooting and was a state champion for Pennsylvania and New York.
Surviving are his wife, Irmtraud "Irmie" Neer of the home in Slippery Rock; two sons, Michael Roy Neer, Ph.D. of Kansas City, Mo., and Thomas Roy (Sandra) Neer of Palm City, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Tania Ullrich of Pittsburgh; a stepson, Kevin L. Krikorian of Denver; and two sisters, Claudia Stoltz of Santa Ana, Calif., and Julia Feenie (Floyd) of Las Vegas. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jennifer Ruth, Ginger Ullrich and Matthew and Daniel Neer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Henry Neer; and two sisters, Dorothy Frick and Imogene Neer.
NEER - Friends of Roy Herbert Neer Jr., who died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where the service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. James Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Butler Humane Society.

To Mike, Tom and Irmie -- I am so sorry for your loss. We are never ready to lose someone special in our lives, even when they are 87 years old and have lived a very full life.
