John SANDERCOCK Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from May 16 to May 17, 2016.
SANDERCOCK, John A.W. (Jack)
July 9, 1938 – Edmonton, Alberta
May 12, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta
Jack passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, at the age of 77 years after a lengthy battle with cancer. Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years, Doreen, his daughters Cheryl (Alan Frison), Susan Piercey (Andrew), Linda (Mark Boonstra) and Jane Gill (Mike) as well as seven cherished grandchildren Ben, Lachlan, Aida, Corbett, Maslin, Dylan and Laurel. He is also survived by his sister Marjorie McLean (Russell) and his brother Bob (Libby), as well as many other family and friends. Jack was a chemical engineer who worked at Shell Canada for over 30 years, and then as a consultant. Jack was kind, gentle, and passionate about life, which he lived to the fullest. His life revolved around his family and friends, who all knew his infectious laugh. He was involved in ski racing as an official and volunteer for over 40 years, including the 1988 Olympics. In 2015 he was inducted into the Canadian Rockies Ski Racing Hall of Fame for his contributions to the sport he enjoyed for many years. His love of skiing, the mountains and the outdoors was passed on to his daughters and grandchildren, which gave Jack great pleasure. Jack loved travelling the world with Doreen and took a multitude of photos, which he shared with friends and family. Jack loved music from an early age, first being involved in the Edmonton School Boys' Band, and then sharing his love of music by playing piano with his grandchildren, and enjoying concerts, especially jazz music. Jack was a great cook and truly loved barbecuing for family and friends. He also enjoyed a good game of bridge. A Celebration of Jack's Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family extends our gratitude to Dr. Ruether and team at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and many others for his care. In living memory of Jack Sandercock, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Dear Doreen & family:

Carol Anne and I were extremely saddened to hear word of Jack's passing. Jack and I joined Shell at about the same time and I have many fond memories of time spent together on Houston training courses, on the job and on the ski hills. Jack;s infectious humour and wise counsel will be sorely missed.

Best wishes to you and all the girls,

Bob Faulkner

Dear Sandercock Family,

I wanted to express my condolences in the passing of a gentle, kind and warm soul. I know his legacy continues on through his exceptional family, a family who should be so proud of a life lived with class.

I was very lucky to have known Jack, and wish him a peaceful journey moving on.

Dear Doreen and family:

I was so very sad to note Jack's passing. I have such fond memories of our skiing days in the 60's. I can still visualize Jack in his funny white pointed ski hat. When Tom and I were skiing at Pigeon Mountain, I always felt safer when Jack was on the hill. I know Tom is waiting to show him around the perfect ski hill in Heaven.

My sincerest condolences to the Sandercock family. Although I never met Jack, I know his quality and chararcteristics live on through his children, whom I am blessed to call friends.

Doreen
Our sincere condolences to you and all your family members. We are sorry to not having been in touch over the last few years and regret not having shared a few memories with Jack before his death. But we will remember him as a truly sincere and fine person in all aspects of his life. I hope there is a ski hill where we will someday again be able to get together for a few more runs with all of the old gang.

Dear Cheryl and Family,
I am so saddened to hear of the loss of you dad. When I think of him, I clearly remember his laughter, especially mixed with your mom's during family discussions at the dinner table. I know that he is not there physically with you, but I believe the best parts of him are within each of you, as you are all wonderful people just as he was. I will treasure the many memories I have of time spent in your home. Thank you for letting me be a part of your family.

Love Karyn
