Lauren WILMOT Obituary
WILMOT, Lauren,
Beloved daughter of Carol and Marshall Wilmot, and sister of Claire Wilmot passed away in Calgary on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the age of 20. Lauren is also remembered by her extended family: Carol E Wilmot, Harry Wilmot (Wendy Best), Michael Wilmot, Susan Wilmot (Wesley Lafortune), Lilian Lloyd, Margaret Lindsay (Bob Hart), Sandra (Chris) Wigg, Colin (Noel) Lloyd; cousins Scott and Leah Wilmot, Jacqueline, Michael and Robert Wigg, Thomas, James and Morgan Lloyd. Lauren was born in Calgary and spent the early years of her childhood in White Rock, British Columbia. She attended Springbank Community High School where she excelled in both academics and sports. Lauren was diagnosed with a rare central nervous system disease in August 2011, just before starting grade 12. Not one to allow her illness to define her, she chose to carry on with her studies and graduate with her class, despite a demanding series of treatments. In June, 2012 she graduated with Distinction, and went on to be accepted into the Sauder School of Business at UBC. Despite all of the obstacles she faced, she excelled at UBC and made the dean's list this year. Lauren approached life with courage and grace and had a remarkable ability to empathize with others, making her a rare and valuable friend. She was able to accomplish a lot in her short life and was an inspiration and teacher to all who knew her. Appreciation goes to her health care teams at both the Alberta and the BC Children's Hospitals who supported her desire to continue pursuing her dreams and provided excellent care. We would also like to acknowledge UBC and the Sauder Business School for all that they have done in support of Lauren attending and excelling in university. Therefore, a special award fund has been set up in Lauren's name through UBC in support of other deserving students coping with adversity. Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 - 8 Street S.W.) on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.edenbrookcemetery.ca. We just heard of Lauren's passing and are so saddened. Lauren was a wonderful girl with a sparkle in her eye. She was welcoming to Charlotte when she was new to school,and was kind to everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Wilmot Family, We recall our introduction upstairs at the Glencoe Club as the four of us watched below our youngsters scurry and smash around the courts exploring a potential new sporting endeavour together under the skilled master Chanrong. I remember young Lauren to be graceful of spirit and determined on court. That moment seems a lifetime ago. Although Connor graduated with Lauren and Drew the year after, we were only aware of the fact that your family and Lauren were on a journey involving a health challenge and that you had chosen to approach this with privacy. Both Connor and Drew were concerned then of course and you have remained in our prayers, as you all are now. We were saddened to hear of Lauren's passing but uplifted to read the beautiful tribute -- what an impressive woman. We hope that your fondest memories will comfort you along with the love and sympathy we and so many others send with great care.

It is with Such Sadness to hear of Lauren's passing. I recall her at the dentist office and both her and Claire were gracious young girls. And of course they had their Aunt Marg there to help them through their appointment. Hold your memories close to your heart and they will help you through this difficult sad time.
