Ludovic PHILIPPOT Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Jan. 7 to Jan. 8, 2013.
PHILIPPOT, Ludovic (Vic) Guillaume
December 30, 1939 - January 5, 2013
Vic passed away peacefully the way he loved to be in life, surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous ten year long struggle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. He is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne (nee Stakiw) and beloved daughter, Suzanne. He is also survived by his sister, Marie and brother-in-law Robert Gousseau; the loving family he joined through his wife Yvonne; many cherished nieces and nephews, dear friends, and especially his best buddy, John Siroishka. He is predeceased by his parents, Adele and Ludovic, as well as his brothers, Denis and Frank. He was born at home in St. Claude, and grew up trapping rabbits and muskrats, sharing ice cream cones, and swimming in sloughs with his brothers, sister, and cousins, all the while feeding his hungry intellect with study and industrious work to pave his own way towards his future career in finance, with a degree in Chartered Accountancy from the University of Manitoba. Vic moved to Calgary in the late 1960s, where he was a keen and entrepreneurial businessman who enjoyed professional partnerships in various businesses, including real estate and the petroleum industry. He especially enjoyed a rewarding association and friendship with John Thomson and Don Bobyn and colleagues. Vic lived life fully - he traveled the world, also lived in Algeria and Houston, served in the military reserves, flew small planes across farmer's fields to scare cows and once across the Sahara desert; sailed boats and loved snorkeling, crafted his own wine with "wine guru" Ola, and loved to entertain. He was a member of many social clubs, and cherished his friendships made in the Petroleum Ski Club, where he met Yvonne. They married in 1983, and in 1987, with the arrival of their daughter Suzie, Vic became a doting and loving father. They were blessed as a family to share many good times together abroad, at home, and especially in Windermere, BC, where they and their dog, Pepsi, shared the favourite pastime of floating on the lake in their boat with good books, picnics, and the most beautiful view in the world. A Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church (4903 - 45 Street S.W. in Calgary, AB). A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at the same location with a reception to follow. Interment at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens (Lower Springbank Road and 17 Avenue S.W. in Calgary, AB). Vic's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude towards the Sisters and Staff (Angels) of Father Lacombe Care Centre, who cared so dearly for Vic and eased his difficult journey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made towards the building fund of the new Father Lacombe Care Centre Chapel (322 - 146 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB). Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.leydens.com. Arrangements entrusted to LEYDEN'S FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORIUM (304 - 18 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB). Telephone: 403-228-4422.

Dear Yvonne, Suzanne, and family,

I returned home this morning from visiting my parents in Rincon de Guayabitos, Mexico, when I received the sad news of Vic's passing from my Aunt Alice. My deepest condolences go out to you during this difficult time.

My Dad has shared a number of fun-filled stories from his childhood and adolescent years and when he spoke of Vic, it was with laughter and fondness. Vic was an intelligent man that was so full of life and kindness. May he rest in peace.

Dear Yvonne, Suzanne, Marie-Adèle and Bob – I'm very sad for your loss. But be comforted that he is now at peace and re-united with his parents and brothers Frank and Denis.

I'll always cherish the memories of the closeness between your family and mine Vic - the carefree years of the childhood we shared in St. Claude, and later as adults in Winnipeg. I was always proud to have you for my cousin - you were such a nice one.
Un jour, nous serons tous ensemble à nouveau.

Dear Yvonne and Suzie
How lucky Vic was to have such a devoted wife, daughter and extended Stakiws. Life was unfair to him in those last years. He will always be remembered as one of the gang who was jovial and loved to be with friends, a genuine, kind man. You will be missed and remembered always, Vic.

You were so kind to me and Clifford, and I shall always remember you.

Our condolences Yvonne and Suzie,
The last time we saw Vic was at the long-service CA recognition event a number of years ago. We first met Vic in the early 80's and always enjoyed our talks. He was always so happy and fun to be around. You put on a great birthday party for him when he was 50. Well done, we all have to remember those good times! We will miss him. Best Regards, Ken and Eva Cudmore
