BARSKY , Harold May 14, 1924 - May 31, 2009 Harold, beloved husband of Edythe of Calgary, passed away on May 31, 2009 at the age of 85 years. He was a true gentleman. Born in Winnipeg on May 14, 1924, Harold moved with his family as a six year old to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The family owned the Blue Chain store for many years. Harold had an idyllic childhood. After he completed a brief stint at University, Harold left to join the Royal Canadian Air Force and trained as a pilot before the end of World War II. He returned to the family business after the war, as secretary treasurer. He met and married the love of his life, Edythe Goldie Barsky, on August 16, 1950. They settled in Prince Albert and raised three children. Harold later went on to be involved in a number of sales careers including clothing, real estate and insurance. Harold was an active member of the Prince Albert Beth Jacob Congregation. He was a former President of the synagogue and of the B'Nai Brith. Harold was an exceptional family man. Left to mourn his passing, and his kind and gentle spirit, is his beloved wife, Edythe. He was the greatest father to Dr. Jacob Barsky, Dr. Robert Barsky (Marcie) and Dr. Valerie Barsky, and a sweet grandfather to Joe, Janine, Rachel, Josh and Genna. I Remember Uncle Harold

An uncle has a special place in the heart of his nephew. My uncle Harold occupies an extra-special, unique, and timeless spot in mine. From my earliest memories, to each present day as it unfolds, the thoughts and feelings I have about my uncle truly inspire me through the admiration and respect I developed for him as I simply observed him, and grew up as a part of his daily life. I have been greatly affected by the example he set as an easy-going, reserved, and wise human being. He was very easy to be with; a true kind and gentle spirit.

One time, when I was quite young, Uncle Harold was looking after us while our parents were away for a short while. At the front entrance to our house in Prince Albert, he and I got into a conversation that quickly developed into a strange interchange of hilarious banter. Both of us, I am sure, have never before nor since laughed so hard as we did that day. It was a defining moment in my life, and I smile all over inside whenever it comes to mind, as it frequently does. Adieu, sweet Uncle.
