Jean passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the age of 90 years. Jean Nettleton will be greatly missed by her devoted companion John McLaren; cousins and second cousins including Bill Herriot (Sharran), Jim Herriot (Celsa), Jim Hawkes, Terri Hawkes (Jeff Sackman), Robert Hawkes (Susan Cullen), Terry Roberts (Harvey Coyote) and Marcia Runge; and extended family and friends. Jean was predeceased by her parents, William and J. 'Alexa' (nee Herriot) Nettleton; and cousins Margaret Roberts and Joanne Hawkes. Jean was a proud native Calgarian of Scottish descent and holds the distinction of being one of the first female pharmacists in Alberta. Upon graduating from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Alberta in 1946, she was honoured with the coveted silver medal award. Jean actively practiced as a pharmacist with Calgary's Medical Arts Pharmacy and Dunford Drugs (1946-1965) and as the respected Pharmacy Manager of the Brewerton Medical Centre Apothecary where she worked from 1965 to 1984. Jean retired from the Alberta College of Pharmacists in 1991. She was also a passionate photographer, gardener, hiker, golfer and traveler with her constant companion of over half a century, John McLaren. Jean loved her many dogs over the years, especially Cappy, Teddy and Nikki, and held Calgary Stampeder season tickets for more than fifty years. A special thanks to family, friends and caregivers including Margaret, Elizabeth, Greta, Beth, Vic, Norma, Skye and the Trinity Lodge and Chinook Care Center teams, all of whom cared for Jean with affection and dignity. Jean will live in our hearts forever. Funeral Services will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church (1009 – 15 Avenue S.W.) on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Burnsland Cemetery (Spiller Road and 27 Avenue S.E.
