Ivan BOHL Obituary
November 17, 1951 - October 31, 2016
Ivan passed away in Kelowna, BC, on Monday, October 31, 2016. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 37 years, Birgit, his mother, Annelise Bohl, and brothers: Jens (Anna- Marta), Flemming (Inge), Calle (Inge), Hans (Wanda), Birgit's children: John Sorensen, Diana (Darrell) Kary and seven grandchildren. Also left to mourn are Birgit's sisters and brothers and their families, as well as many good friends in Denmark as well as in Canada. Ivan was predeceased by his father Johannes. Ivan was born and raised in Helberskov, Denmark. He apprenticed and worked as a plumber, and he served as a "Royal Danish Guard". He immigrated to Canada in 1974 where he continued his plumbing career. Ivan started his own business, "North Star Plumbing and Heating, which he operated successfully until his retirement in 2007. He and Birgit moved to Kelowna where he enjoyed his early retirement, boating, fishing , traveling as well as riding his motorcycle, and his favorite pastime, making homemade wine. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Eden Brook Funeral Home on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Ivan's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ab.ca). Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.edenbrookcemetery.ca. Arrangements entrusted to EDEN BROOK FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 24223 Twp Rd 242, Calgary, AB, T3Z 3K2.

I have never met face to face Ivan but I got to know him from reading about Helberskov, Denmark. My mother is from Germany and her maiden name is also Bohl so when i read about Ivan I was intrigued to meet possibly family members in denmark. I am sorry Ms Birgit Bohl for your loss and my prayers are with you. I hope to possibly contact maybe. I live in St.louis, MO usa. tak farvel

I was very saddened to hear of Ivan's passing. I got to know Ivan and Birgit through the Danish Guard Association Western division, He was a soft spoken man and had his passion for wine, his motor bike and adventures. He will be missed. Sending my condolences to Birgit and family. God Speed Ivan.

I had the good fortune of working with Ivan for several years. I remember him having to stoop over to make it through many a basement doorway. Although a hulk of a man, his spirit was and is one of the most gentle I've had the pleasure of knowing. My condolences to you, Birgit and his family.

I worked with Ivan in the mid 70's. He was a really good guy and a really good tradesman. I learned a lot from him. My condolences to his family.

Ivan was so easy to work with, so even keeled, a prince of a guy! No matter how tough the job was, he always got it done and with a smile at the end. And we have those good times at the Danish Club to remember. Peace be with you all.

Our family was very saddened to hear of Ivan's passing. We fondly remember Ivan as a dear friend and neighbour. He always made himself available if ever you needed him, with his calm and gentle demeanor.
I find myself still referring to the house on Windmill Way as, "Ivan's and Birgit's".
Heartfelt condolences Birgit. May your cherished memories give you strength and solace moving forward.
May his memory be eternal.
