Albert Florkow Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Jun. 18, 2011.

FLORKOW, Albert January 1, 1925 - June 12, 2011 It is with love and great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Albert after 86 years of life, love and success. Albert will be greatly missed by his loving family: wife Irene of 62 years; son Ken, daughter in law Kim and his 3 treasured grandchildren: Nicholas, Mark and Kevin; son David; and sister Rose. He was predeceased by his brother Walter. Albert worked for BC Packers for over 45 years. He started his career as an office boy at the age of 16, was promoted to office manager (1947) in the coastal B.C. fishing port of Namu where he met his wife Irene. Albert was the Go to Guy for the cannery town; managing the office and administrative operation of the large fishing plant as well as the paymaster and called upon for local medical emergencies. He returned to Richmond B.C (1954) with his new family and studied hard at night to obtain his Professional accounting designation and progressed to the position of Treasurer of BC Packers from which he retired in 1990. Since then, he kept busy in his workshop showcasing his talents as a wood working craftsman and was always working on a project to build special things for his family and grandchildren. He was incredibly brilliant and his family will always remember the phrase: "if you don't know something - ask Dad/Grandad" and he never disappointed us. You were a loving and treasured husband, father, grandfather and friend, and a role model that strengthened all of us. Your passing brought sadness, but you were ready to go. We are all so grateful for the love, care, laughter, guidance and support you gave us for so many years. You will be forever in our hearts and we will miss you dearly. The family will hold a private family celebration of life. No flowers please. If you wish to recognize Albert, your donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.

Albert was a cheerful and caring neighbour; always willing to chat and have a good word about things. Elaine and I will miss him.

As a young girl growing up on Flury Rd., I always remember Mr. Florkow as being a very kind and friendly man. He would always support any fund raisers when my sisters and I came knocking on the door. My husband, Dave Baydala, knew Dave and Ken from school and through his cousin, Bruce. Please accept our condolences during this difficult time.

Mrs. Florkow & Family - I am very saddened to hear of Albert's passing. Barry Patterson and myself were just speaking of Albert a few weeks ago. My thoughts and prayers are with you all and I had very fond memories of working with Albert @ BC Packers for 18 years. Violet Compton (nee Pughe) xo
