Robert Lester

Robert M. Lester, 79, of Annapolis, died December 10 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Robert was born on July 29, 1934 in Joplin, Missouri where he was raised. He lived in Bremerton, WA and Oceanside, CA prior to moving to Cape St. Claire in 1975. He was a Marine serving two tours of duty in Korea, then served as a Drill Instructor, and later served two tours of duty in Vietnam earning the Purple Heart and the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V. Mr. Lester then worked as a Secret Service Agent during the Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and George H. Bush Administrations. He also worked in the Foreign Dignitary Protection Division, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the NRA, and the Fleet Reserve Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cutting wood at his cabin in West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucille Lester, and his sister, Betty Algood. Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean (Haske) Lester of Cape St. Claire; his sons, Rob Lester (Laurie) of Cape St. Claire and Randy Lester (Barbara) of Cape St. Claire; his grandchildren, Brandy (Phillip), Jason (Kari), Tim, Todd, Ryan, Katie, Amy (Jeff) and Steve; and his great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Shawn, RJ, Sierra, and Carson. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Jack Algood. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. on Friday, December 13, at St. Andrew by the Bay Roman Catholic Church, 701 College Parkway in Annapolis, followed by interment at Maryland Veteran's Cemetery in Crownsville.
