James Nissel Obituary



James William Nissel, 77, of Sykesville, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015 in Ellicott City, MD. Born June 6, 1937, in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late James W. and Grace W. Nissel (nee Albert), and the stepson of the late Alphonsus J. Nissel. He was the brother of the late David L. Nissel and the devoted husband of the late Dorothy I. Nissel (nee Byers). Surviving are daughter Faith A. Nissel and granddaughters Megan R. Nissel and Rachel D. Nissel of Sykesville, MD; son Brian J. Nissel and his wife Lori J. Dubbs-Nissel (nee Dubbs) and grandson Chase B. Nissel of Falling Waters, WV; brothers Franklin D. Nissel of Richfield, PA and Charles E. Nissel of Corpus Christi, TX; and dear friends and caregivers Gary and Donna Sinquefield of Ellicott City, MD. He received his BSEE from the University of Miami and enjoyed a successful 40 year career as a Field Engineer with Honeywell (formerly Allied Signal and Bendix Field Engineering Corporation). He played the organ at St. Joseph's Church in Eldersburg, MD. He will be remembered for his fondness of computers, his love of concerts performed by Diane Bish, and his great sense of humor in the face of adversity. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville, MD. Funeral liturgy will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Mark Catholic Church, 30 Melvin Ave., Catonsville, MD. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Alpha-1 Foundation (alpha-1foundation.org) or The Joy of Music (thejoyofmusic.org).
