Barbara Ellen McDaniel Baker

Barbara Ellen McDaniel Baker, 67, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015. She was born October 15, 1948, in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of the late Walter D. "Bud" McDaniel, Jr. and Flaudyne A. Mathis McDaniel. She was the step-daughter of the late Ruth C. McDaniel. She was the wife of Donald V. Baker, her husband of 48 years. She was a 1966 graduate of Sykesville High School. After graduation, she worked for Riggs, Warfield & Rolison Insurance in Baltimore. She later worked for State Farm Insurance in Frederick, Maryland. For several years, she drove school buses for various contractors, including the ARC of Carroll County. In 1976, she went to work at Springfield State Hospital. As an aide, she entered its nursing program and became an LPN. In 1984, she graduated from Howard Community College with an A.A. in Nursing, earning her R.N. license that same year. She worked for Spring Grove Hospital, where she was a Ward Supervisor. After almost 30 years of Service, she retired in 2004, after suffering a stroke. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald A. and Tammi L. Baker of White Marsh, daughter and son-in-law, Kelly D. and Scott G. Davey of Westminster, and sister-in-law, Gale A. McDaniel of Westminster. She is predeceased by her brother, Richard G. McDaniel. She was the last surviving member of her family. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8pm and Wednesday from 1 to 2pm at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2pm. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Park.
