Kirk Springer Ebbs March 29, 1965 December 27, 2017 Kirk Springer Ebbs, 52, of State College, lost his battle to cancer on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at home. Kirk's "Marine Corps" strength radiated to the final seconds before death. Supporting and caring for his family was always in the forefront of every thought and action. Kirk's perseverance and determination has touched the lives of many. Kirk was extremely proud of his four children, Reilly Marie, Adalie Marie, Lilly Marie and Nathaniel James Ebbs. Born March 29, 1965, on Army Base Camp Zama, Japan, he the son of James George Ebbs, of Jupiter, Fla. and Norma Springer Tofaute, of Palm City, Fla. On August 4, 1990, he married Dawn Marie Harrington, the love of his life. In addition to his parents, wife and children, he is survived by his step-mother, Arlene Carrier Ebbs and his sister, Kelly Callahan and her husband, Thomas and their two children, Braeden and Delaney, of Jupiter, Fla. He was a 1983 graduate of Corning East High School, Corning, N.Y. He received a Bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1987 in Business Administration. Kirk served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps. from 1990 until 1996. In 2005, he received an MBA from Arizona State University. Kirk was employed as a Regional Plant Manager for Novolex in Milesburg and Richmond, Va. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Visitation will be from held 1:30-3:30 and 6-8 p.m., on Friday, December 29, 2017, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 867 Grays Woods Blvd., State College, with the Reverend Matthew Laffey officiating. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family. It's hard to believe it has been 3 years. A good friend was taken away. I still miss him and think of him often. Kirk was a very special person who touched so many. He loved his family the very most! I just hope and pray that Dawn and the children feel him with them every day. I know he is close and looking over them. God bless them and comfort them in every way. I know they have been blessed with many good and loving memories.

We were so sad that we could not be at the services due to illness. We love and cherish the entire Ebbs family.

We first met Kirk and Dawn over 25 years ago, and have remained close. They are like family to us. Dawn was our daughter Allison's teacher and we met Kirk at a school picnic. Kirk was trying to decide whether to stay in the Marine Corps after Desert Storm, or get out and move into private industry. We recruited him on the spot to come work with us. Aside from his all-American, very handsome face, he had a quiet strength and a vibrant demeanor. With his previous manufacturing, and military experience, we suspected that he was a very special man. He did not disappoint. Kirk was a natural born leader, smart, funny, and a true pleasure to work with. He was a digger and always led by example. Everyone loved and respected Kirk for his work ethic.

To watch this hard working couple start their family was so priceless. Kirk was a sweet tender man as well as a tough Marine. We laugh out loud when we remember little Reilly at 3 years old, and the command she held over her Dad. When she wanted him to listen to her, she would insist that he bend down to her level, and with her 2 little fingers pointing, say "now look into my eyes" repeating back the phrase he used to get her attention. The sweet tender look on his face just melted us. To Nate, Lilly, Addie and Reilly - your Father was a remarkable, brave and great man. He fought as hard as he could to beat Cancer and to stay with his family. You and your Mom were the most important things to him, You have experienced a difficult and traumatic event, and it will take time to heal. You will remember all of the fun and loving times with your Dad. When he played and wrestled with you. When he watched all your shows and snuggled with you, and tucked you into bed. You each have a part of him inside you. He has given you the gift of strength to get through this. And any time in the future that you experience a hardship, I promise you that you will think of your Dad, and his courage to take something head on, and to never give up, and always do your best. He had very high values that he has instilled in you.

To Dawn - You have lost the love of your life, and there will never be another Kirk. There are no words to describe the sorrow we feel. You two were true soulmates. We will always be there for you and the kids.

Norma and Kelly - You have been a rock for Dawn and the kids while still dealing with your own grief. We parents are never supposed to lose a child. Life is not fair, and you have been robbed as well. There isn't a person that knew Kirk, who does not have the greatest love, respect, and admiration for him. Few people on this earth could have fought the battle like he did. Working at his job right up to the end for his family. Mowing the lawn when in pain and weak after Chemo. Lifting weights, running on a Stairmaster, and riding a bicycle to work, all to stay in shape. He has been a true hero for us all. He may not have lived as long as others, but he lived a larger one than most. Rest in peace Springer. We will never forget you and will love you forever.

Such a beautiful family Kirk has left. I'm heartbroken about Kirk; such a loss for his family and friends/employees, and an inspiration to all for his strength and spirit.
I knew Kirk only slightly...as a baby when his mom and dad visited us in Phoenix and Mass, and later when we saw him/Kelly/Norma/Jim in Corning.
His mom Norma and I go way back; she was my best friend in Arlington, Va. as kids. Then after college she and I drove her TR3 from VA. to San Diego, where she met Jim, Kirk's dad. Then for years we got together for trips/reunions as the Bayside Babes.

My heart goes out to Kirk's lovely family and all who knew this brave, amazing young man.

Our hearts are aching for the Ebbs family, and the loss of this great man. We are posting more on the Ebbs Endurance sight, and a go fund me page has been started to help the Ebbs Family. Kirk will live on through his beautiful wife and children.

Kirk was my boss in Arizona for a few years back around 2010. Although he was only here for a short time, he made an impact on me, and from what I can tell, everyone else he met. He is a shining example of leader; exemplified by hard work, dedication, sincerity, and honesty. He treated us all as equals, and he himself was not afraid to roll up his sleeves and get dirty. He often spoke of his family, and was so determined for them to be successful in life. I have so much respect for this man, and I'm sorry to hear this tragic news. Kirk is no doubt with our Father, and will forever live on in my memory. My deepest sympathies.

I'm sorry for your loss of Kirk. I played soccer with him in 1982, the first year Corning had a team. I remember his smile and his tenacity.

Dawn and Kids - From the first time I met Kirk for the Milesburg plant manager role, I knew he was and always would be an amazing Man, Husband, Father and business partner. He was one of the most genuine people and leaders I ever had the privilege to work with. I know that there are no worse to console you, but know that he touched many people's lives, and will live on forever in our memory. We will always honor the great person that he was.
