Dear Mrs. Christie,
I had the pleasure of knowing Doug in the 1980s when he and I both worked at the Athlete's Foot store at South Hills Village.
I, like everyone else, immediately took to Doug because he was a truly nice, honest, and upstanding guy.
I can truthfully say that I thought of Doug many times over the years, and I can still see his smile and hear his chuckle.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
God bless you,
Mike Lacy

Not only did Doug always have a smile on his face but you couldn't help but smile and laugh right along with him. I have memories that will last a lifetime of a friend that meant a lot to me.

Oh my. I am so sorry to hear about Doug. We've been playing phone tag since Christmas and I guess that phone call will never get completed. Doug was a caring and thoughtful man who was proud of his children and tried his best to help those around him.I know him from his early years at Falcon Camp and while we lost touch over our adult years, in the past several years we had reconnected and I enjoyed our conversations. Best thoughts and prayers to all of Doug's family from all of us at Falcon.

Doug was a great guy. He had his struggles --don't we all? -- and he definitely was devoted to his kids and treasured being able to attend their sports events. He visited me in the nursing home many times in 2008 while I was recovering from a motorcycle crash. We often talked about job possibilities at the development office at the university, and he could put on the suit and look like a top notch executive.
I was delighted to run into him at the car dealership a few years ago, responding to some premium they'd mailed out where I could win a car. I didn't win anything, but it was a slow day, and we sat around with co-workers and shot the breeze for more than an hour simply catching up. There just aren't that many people who you're genuinely glad to run into, who are genuinely glad to see you, and time just flows pleasantly and naturally. That was a gift that Doug had, and am honored that he shared it with me.
I was really saddened to learn of his passing. I wish I were able to attend services on Washington Road. I'll be thinking of him a lot Saturday, and fondly always. Vaya con Dios, Doug, and blessings to your family and friends.

Such sad news for such a vibrant family. Mary Lou, I can clearly remember, my friend, how often you said Doug's name and told a story about him when we taught together at Lincoln. He has your twinkle in his eye that comes from enjoying life, helping others, and loving well.
Call me anytime-day or night- to talk.

We met Doug through the dealership. The moment we met him we felt comfortable. His laugh and smile infectious. We don't know many details of Doug's life but we know some very important facts. He was a kind man, someone you could trust. A man who loved his children. A good man. RIP

The Christie's were one of the first families we met when we moved to State College. Their generosity and friendliness is a testament of how Doug lived and influenced others. We are saddened by this news and want to offer our support the same certain way the Christie's would offer for us.
God Bless Doug and his family. -Blonski family
