Mary E. Bringman

Mary Elizabeth (Moyer) Bringman November 22, 1923 February 7, 2015 Mary Elizabeth (Moyer) Bringman, 91, of Gettys- burg died February 7, 2015, at the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village where she was a resident for the past four years. She was preceded in death on May 16, 2014, by her husband of nearly 66 years, The Rev. Dale S. Bringman. Born November 22, 1923, in Middleburg, she was the daughter of the late Birchard J. and Vera G. (Goss) Moyer. Mary was a 1945 graduate of Susquehanna University and taught mathematics and science in Milton from 1945 until 1948. She completed graduate studies at Bucknell University. She worked as a caseworker for the PA Department of Public Welfare in Gettysburg from 1948 until 1950. She also was a library technician at Penn State University, and later at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, Calif. from 1980 until her retirement in 1993. Throughout her adult life she was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, taught Sunday school, and led various church groups at Redeemer Lutheran Church (Harrisburg), Grace Lutheran Church (State College), and St. Peter's by the Sea Lutheran Church (San Diego, Calif.). She enjoyed sewing and quilting and spending time with her family. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit all 50 states and over 100 countries during their years together. She is survived by her children, Dr. Carol Luce and husband James, of Beaver; The Rev. Dr. David Bringman and wife Linda, of Alameda, Calif.; Daniel Bringman and wife Lucinda, of Gettysburg; and Christine Darr and husband Todd, of Wallingford; seven grandchildren, The Rev. Mark Bringman, of Albany, Ore.; Kathryn Baxter, of Chicago, Ill.; Dr. Ruth Gardner, of Silver Spring, Md.; Julie Bringman, of Washington, DC; Jeffrey Luce, of Houston, Texas; Sarah Smith, of York Springs; and Cheryl Luce, of Chicago, Ill.; and three great-grandchildren. A Christian memorial service will be held at a later time. Arrangements will be handled by Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg, PA.
