Theresa Peters MT. PLEASANT - Theresa Lynn Peters, 36, died on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Born September 27, 1976 in Hinsdale, Illinois, she was the daughter of Paul Peters and Vicki Simpson Peters. Surviving are brother, Mr. Michael Peters of Mount Pleasant, SC, and sister, Ms. Mary ElizaBeth Peters of Boston. Theresa was raised in Downers Grove, Illinois and attended Downers Grove North High School ('94). She went on to attend the College of Charleston in South Carolina, where she made her home. Theresa was born with Cystic Fibrosis and was treated by Dr. Lewis E. Gibson and Maureen Garvey at Loyola University Hospital, Chicago. In Charleston, she was later treated by Dr. Patrick Flume and Sue Gray. The family would like to acknowledge the work, loyalty and kindness of these medical professionals. In 2003, Theresa received a double lung transplant at Duke University. After recovery, Theresa returned to Charleston to work at the Medical University of South Carolina. The family would like to acknowledge the loyalty and support of the MUSC staff. Theresa was a sweet, hilarious, beautiful woman who was also an inspiration to many others living with Cystic Fibrosis and preparing for lung transplant. She was very active in the CF community and she was particularly an inspiration to young women. She was a very spiritual person; she lived her life with passion, beauty, fun, a bit of mischief, and a lot of love. She will be missed by many. In lieu of donations, Theresa requests flowers. Being a Cystic Fibrosis and transplant patient, Theresa was never allowed to have flowers, so she would want them in her celebration of life. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted online at www.mcalister-smith.com. A Funeral Mass will be held at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive, Mt. Pleasant, SC, on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Arrangements have been entrusted to MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, MT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1520 RIFLE RANGE RD, MT. PLEASANT, SC 29464, (843) 884-3833.
