My Carol story;

I had my first "talk" with Carol the day I found out my husband had been critically injured in Afghanistan. My eyes were red and swollen, I was lost and angry and scared. Carol did not hestitate to comfort me. I will never forget what she said as I left the giftshop that day.. "now go powder your nose before you scare someone!" I laughed uncontrollably!

From that day, we became fast friends. She never failed to ask about my husband, remember my girls names and simply became a blessing in my life.

The world has lost such a gracious, beautiful person. I want to be Carol when I grow up.

My thoughts and prayers are, of course, with her family.

I am deeply sorry for the loss of a very special person. Carol had an effervescent quality about her. She made you smile just being near her. I will miss sharing recipes with her and her cute little stories. She was a friend to everyone. She loved to show you the newest items in the gift shop, just to share them with you. I will cherish the short time I knew her. God Bless you.

Dear Hardman Family,
I'm sorry seems so inadequate at this time but it is sincere. As the patient advocate here at St Francis, I would often have Carol call me when she saw or heard of someone in need. Carol was such a huge part of life here at St Francis with her funny and heartwarming stories ... she is truly loved here and will be missed terriby.

"Ms. Scarlett" as my late husband used to call her was the epitomy of a southern lady. She became our friend when we moved to Charleston and took us into her heart and family for the many years to come. Everything good about the south came alive when Carol was there. She had such a joy for life and love for her family that was an inspiration for all. My dear sister, I will miss you terribly. To her family, please know that there is a place in my heart and home for you all.

You were an amazing woman and I will miss you dearly. I would go to the gift shop just to see if you were working because you always had an interesting story to tell or something funny to say. I could always bet on you brightening up my day if you were working and I will truly miss you. Thank you for always being so kind, patient and caring. God has definitely called one of his angels home. Many blessings and prayers to the family.

Carol was always a joy to be around. Her laughter was contagious, her stories hilarious and her humor infectious. Her generosity knew no bounds. She will be greatly missed by all of the CLAS members. We have truly lost a best friend and a sister. When we gather round the campfire at our living history events, we will think fondly of her and recall wonderful memories. And when we gaze up at the night sky and see the brightest, twinkling star we will know she is looking down on us from heaven.

To the Hardman family, Though I don't know you, my sympathy is with each and every one of you. I, too, work at St. Francis and got to know Carol over the past few years. She was an incredible person and will be missed more than you know. There wasn't a day that I worked that I didn't visit her in the gift shop. She was always smiling and such an upbeat person. She was truly a blessing to all of us at St. Francis. She is most definitely someone that serves as an inspiration for all of us to enjoy life like she did by serving others and her Lord with all she had to give. What a special person that will be missed so much.

Carol was a shiny bright star at Roper St Francis! She will be truly missed by so many people whose lives she touched everyday.

Carol, Was truely one of a kind, and will be greatly missed. We will always remeber the first weekend we met at Brattonsville. We went on an adventure to find ice for the ice cream they were churning for the soliders. The pies and quiche we created in the Brattonsville kitchen, while burning up from the heat in the small kitchen. Her energy and sprit was infectious. The time we spent together was a pleasure and we will forever be changed by here kindness. My husband will be forever known as Termite. lol Her memory will forever live on. Heather/Shawn King

I am so sorry for your loss of Carol. I work at St. Francis and would always enjoy my conversations with her. If I ever needed a pick me up, I could go to the gift shop and rely on Carol to do that. She is one of a kind, and I will always treasure having known her in my life. I know she has touched many lives with her caring attitude. God shared her with us for a while, but was ready for her to come home to brighten heaven a little more ! I am sure God will wrap his arms around your family to get you through this difficult time. Keep her memories close to you and treasure them always.
