What an awesome woman; wit, smarts and humor. I only heard her speak once but I never forgot. and I know she was a role model for many and a champion for our beleaguered environment. Gone too soon. Deepest condolences to her family and friends.

I know you as Margaret or MAD and now I learn that you are also Delia - no matter the name I loved you from the moment I met you. It was such a thrill working together whether it was related to efforts focused on The Coastal Society, Sea Grant, CSC, NOAA, Scripps Institution of Oceanography...life! Although I can no longer speak to you and hear your response, you will be in my life forever; and I know that I am not alone in that feeling. I will do my very best to channel my inner Margaret/MAD/Delia (that you have imbued me with) always. My love goes out to all those that know you and miss you! It is my hope that we will all have a chance to meet someday and share Delia's amazing spirit!

I was so sad to learn of Margaret's passing. As a NOAA employee, I was consistently inspired by her intelligence, charisma and candor. She was funny, unconventional and unapologetic. She made such an impact on us at NOAA and the world. I will always be grateful our paths crossed.

Bless you, Margaret, for being an independent individual and always yourself. I was truly blessed to know you and to work with you. You made me think, you made me laugh, you made me better. Godspeed.

Dear Margaret,
I cannot believe the news that you are no longer with us. You have left a big imprint with your bright laughter, bold ideas and strong and strategic resolve to make the world a better place. I remember you reaching out to me when I joined NOAA's SES community when it had very few women leaders. We became each other's cheerleaders and made a pact to support each other's initiatives and mentor young scientists and managers, especially women. I so enjoyed working with you and learning from you. Always admired you, my friend. I will miss you!

Margaret's intelligence, charm and energy coalesced to produce a unique ability to assemble individuals and groups with disparate ideas to work cooperatively to develop and conserve coastal resources. Nurtured in the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium, this ability served NOAA well during her career with the parent agency.
Margaret had a ready smile, quick wit and kind words for all (even for those with whom she disagreed). If you were fortunate enough to become a friend, as were my wife Nancy and I, you were blessed.

Delia
You were my best friend in high school even though I was a year ahead of you.
Some memories: your humongous cat which would trap me under the covers of "his bed". The Kharman Guia -red and snazzy. The rabbit autopsy. Smoking-we were too young to know but we both stopped. Flying with your dad. Loving nature and all "critters"--except skunks.
Losing contact and picking up where we left off immediately each time we connected again.
The world is a sadder place without you!
My love always

A visionary with a quick wit. The world is a better place as a result of your commitment to coastal management.
We'll miss you, Margaret.

Margaret gave me hope and guidance when I lost my spark. For no reason - she just did. Whether about "too much or too little water," because of her, I will continue our work. I hope in even the smallest way to make her proud. To the family, sending prayers and strong hugs <3

Margaret hired me at SC Sea Grant Consortium 31 years ago, and I am still at Sea Grant! She had a heart for the needy, and would always give me her clothes for them, and for myself! I will forever be grateful to her and Elaine Knight-Rickard who gave me a chance in the "real world of work"..I miss you already margaret- Gone2soon :(

Margaret provided leadership and vision through the Sea Grant Consortium when the community was working on the Charleston Harbor Estuary project. I had the privilege to work with her and Sea Grant on this project .

I will always remember Margaret's voice saying, "Clara Belllll!" And, my response each time was, "Yes, Margaret." It was such an honor to work for her in the role of DOC/NOAA/NOS, Correspondence Coordinator. In my 48 years of Federal Government service, there were two who motivated me to go far, and Margaret was one of those "Top of the Line" women. I will always remember Margaret. And, most wonderful to me, she always made me smile and laugh. My condolences to you Karen and Margaret's family.

Miss Margaret as I would call her was the sweetest most humble person I know. She would always stop in to see my Director Roan Conrad down at the Commerce and sit down and just fellowship with me before she was on her way. The family has my deepest condolence.

Very sorry to learn of the community's loss of Margaret. I knew her as she took over Sea Grant and spent much time trying to get a consensus going to improve the oceans. Her many accomplishments improved the future of how people interact with sea life. Prayers of comfort to her family and many friends.
