I couldn't agree more with Helen Murray's comments!! It has been amazing to watch God work through the lives of those taken and those left behind. The question has been asked many times, "How could those families forgive?" It's only by the grace of God and their faith. Although time has passed and the tragedy that took Ms. Lance's life is no longer on the front pages, I continue to think of the families of the victims. Each one made a difference in this world in extraordinary ways, but the one that made the most indelible impression on me is Ethel Lance. It was her daughter, Nadine Collier, that stunned the world with her opening comments offering forgiveness in the midst of unspeakable heartbreak. Who knows how this whole thing would have turned out if she had not led the way? But we don't have to wonder, because she stepped up, set an incredible tone for all who followed, and the rest is history. What a strong woman of character Ethel Lance must have been! And Nadine Collier, you are my new hero. Thank you for making me proud to be a South Carolinian.

i knew ethel casually over many years from my work at the gailliard auditorium for the spoleto festival. she was always cheerful and welcomed me back. i might be upstairs ironing costumes and she'd be cleaning out the dressing rooms for me.
she was a very sweet person
i am shocked and horrified that something like this could happen in beautiful charleston to such nice people

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
You have given your dearest Ethel. She will have eternal life. I think that is important. My family have watched and been so proud of your family: Faith and trust in Christ. There has been so much swirling around it is so hard to keep up with what is right. Y'all know what is right.
I lived in Charleston 5 years ago in Ansonborough. I know your beautiful Church Family. Although I do not know you personally, please know your extended Charleston family Loves and is praying for you.
Together there will be change. Your best example will set the stage for HUGE change. Please know, we love you and hate you are having to deal with this. No family should deal with this.
Your loss is bringing the whole country together, but no family should have to endure that to make change.
Just know, your family is in my prayers, and know your reaction has changed the country. Trust in the Lord conquers all.
