Joyce Boatwright Obituary

Joyce "Mitzi" Jordan Boatwright CHARLESTON - Joyce "Mitzi" Jordan, 79, beloved wife of H. Lee Boatwright, passed away on June 2, 2017 after a brief illness. Mitzi was a native Charlestonian, the daughter of William LeRoy Pope Jordan and Joyce Albergotti Jordan. Mitzi and Lee met at a Tea Dance at the Naval Officer's Club and married in 1958. She supported him while he got a MBA, became a banker, moved five times, ultimately making Baltimore their home for many happy years. Family was Mitzi's priority, but she also found time for the Junior League and to serve as the District Manager of the Carlisle Collection and as President of the Garden Club of America in Washington, D.C. Always a consummate hostess, Mitzi thrived on entertaining family and friends and doted on her six grandchildren. An energetic and active grandmother, she could be seen dancing late in to the night at her granddaughters graduation only weeks ago. She will be remembered for her love of music, her decorating skills, and for generously caring for others. Social and gregarious, she had the gift of making conversation with anyone she met. Mitzi enjoyed card games, particularly bridge and competitive, raucous, multi-player "solitaire" games involving many family members. She often said that her father told her that she must be pretty on the inside, not just the outside. Her friends would say she achieved that. Already a longtime member of the Huguenot Society, once Lee introduced Mitzi to her new friend "Google", she became an even more passionate genealogist and an active member of the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the First Families of South Carolina. Mitzi is survived and adored by her husband, Lee, her three children, Joyce B. Cole, Lee P. Boatwright, and Mary B. Mulvey, their spouses, her three siblings, and her grandchildren: Trip, Madison, Louisa, Garland, Sally and Anna, along with many loving friends and extended family members. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Bishop Gadsden Resident Assistance Fund. A memorial service will be held at The Bishop Gadsden Chapel on June 24, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

Joan, my sister who lives in California was very good friends with Llewellen and spent many days at their childhood home. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Jayne and Joan Gilbert.
