Nathan Frenkel Obituary

Nathan Frenkel
Nathan Frenkel, 81, of Charlotte, passed away October 22, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center.
Originally from New York City, he and his wife relocated to Charlotte in 1992 when she transferred with Celanese Corp. He was extremely proud of his graduation from Brooklyn Technical High School. Nathan would go on to attend Columbia and NYU. A true jack of all trades, he worked as a furrier, in general contracting and did commercial and residential restorations. After his retirement, he continued his passion for life-long learning at Westchester Community College, Queens University, and CPCC. Nathan was a member of American Association of Community Theaters and an active member of Senior Scholars. He was a charter member of George Gray's Senior Theater Group and a dedicated volunteer at numerous community theaters for many years. He also volunteered for 9 years at the Buddy Kemp Caring House.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn Frenkel; his brothers, Norman of Manhattan and 'Dilly' of Palm Beach, FL; and his sister, Helene Osman of Plain View, NY.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 1 from 3-5 PM at Actors Theater, 650 East Stonewall St., Charlotte, NC 28202 (704) 342-2251.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the community theater of your choice directly or through Marilyn.
The Frenkel family is being served by Harry & Bryant Co.

Dear Marilyn,
I was very sorry to hear of Nathan's death. He was in my American History I class at CPCC last year, and I've never had a more enjoyable student. I also appreciated the fact that he asked me to speak at a Senior Scholars gathering, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The world is definitely a better place for Nathan having been here. I also feel that I am a better person for having known him.You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Marilyn, My husband, Ray Miller and I were so sorry to learn that Nathan had passed away. We were his "pinochle buddies" at the Senior Center. Nathan was an interesting person with lots of human interest stories with some funny ones thrown in from time to time. I purchased your collage of the city buildings/scenes from Nat for my daughter. Every time I see it, I think of you and Nat. Celebrate the journey with Nathan. Carol Simpson-Miller

Dear Marilyn,

We are so sorry for your tremendous loss. Our time spent at Buddy Kemp, whether cleaning closets or chatting at the support group meetings, was always more fun with you and Nathan there. We will keep you in our prayers. Sheila & Shannon Bennett

Marilyn I'm so sorry you must endure the pain of Nathan's death. More than most you two shared your time and lives together doing what you both loved. I hope you continue doing what you love; your art and your photography. My thoughts and prayers are with you. There are many who were touched by Nathan and his legacy is that you carry on the good work. The theatres of Charlotte are grateful for having had the "team," but I know they are grateful you are still here. I am.
