Dorothy Estridge Obituary

Dorothy Ranson Hunter Estridge July 25, 1921 - October 5, 2012 CHARLOTTE - Dorothy Estridge, age 91, of Charlotte, passed away on October 5, 2012, at Presbyterian Hospital after a sudden illness. A gathering of friends and family will be from 6:00-8:00PM Tuesday evening at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, with a celebration of her life to be at 11:00AM on Wednesday in the church with Reverend Jeff Pinkston officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. She was a resident at Sharon Towers along with her devoted husband, Allen W. Estridge. Dorothy was born on July 5, 1921, to the late Boyce Lee and Freda Lefler Ranson of Charlotte, where she grew up with her seven siblings to later graduate from Central High School, Class of 1939. After lovingly keeping up with her three children and getting them all into school, she followed in her father's footsteps to become a bookkeeper. Dorothy was raised in the ARP and Presbyterian churches and was currently a member of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Steele Creek Chapter #339 Order of the Eastern Star, having served in various offices over the years. Dorothy passed away surrounded by her loving family at Presbyterian Hospital. In addition to Allen, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law David and Betty Hunter, of Lake Wylie, SC, daughter and son-in-law Susan and John Croxton of Charlotte, NC, daughters-in-love Vicki Hummel, Salisbury, NC, and Jenny Stevens (Jerry), of Norwood, NC. Her grandchildren are Sue Greco, Athens, GA, Trevor Hunter (Donna) of Iron Station, NC, Kevin Hunter (Melissa) of Salisbury, NC, Joseph Hunter III, of Charlotte, NC, Jessica Durbin (Justin) of Salisbury, NC, and Aaron Hummel of Salisbury, NC. She was further blessed with 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy is also survived by sisters Frances Canup (W. R.) of Matthews, NC, Margaret Crocker and Sarah Blackwelder, both of Charlotte, NC, sister-in-law Beth Ranson of Spartanburg, SC, and brother-in-law Jack C. Austin of Charlotte, NC. Being one of eight children, there are many dearly loved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Joseph Hunter, Jr., sisters Ruth Siddons (Jesse) and Mae Austin, and brothers Boyce Lee Ranson, Jr. and James Barry Ranson (Rachel). The family is extremely grateful to the care Dorothy received from her doctors, Dr. John Lacouture and Dr. John Pasquini. The staff and residents at Sharon Towers welcomed Mother with open arms and hearts and we will remember this always.
