Jay Hipkins Obituary

Jay S. Hipkins PINEVILLE - Jay S. Hipkins, 49, of Pineville, NC, passed away after a lengthy illness on February 21, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family. Jay was born in Worcester, MA in 1968 and grew up in Hubbardston, MA. He graduated from UNC-Charlotte with a BA in English. He also earned a CELTA certificate and taught English as a second language to students in Hamilton, New Zealand. Jay taught 8th grade and was the cross country coach at The Fletcher School in Charlotte, NC for 10 years. Jay was also an accomplished writer. He is the author of An Ocean of Stories (2014), Astrolabe (2018) and the forthcoming A Forest of Stories, which should be available in the next few months. Jay leaves behind a wife Tina, parents Glenn and Carolyn Hipkins, brothers Craig and Chad Hipkins, along with numerous family, friends, and students from all over the world. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 7, 2018, at The Fletcher School (8500 Sardis Rd., Charlotte, NC 28270) from 3-5pm.
