Eugene Sullivan Obituary
Mr. Sullivan, 86, of Bayside, NY died April 15, 2010 in Matthews, NC, while reminiscing of his wife, who passed days earlier. Raised in Bayside, Long Island, he resided in the Albany, NY and New Orleans, LA areas before retiring in North Carolina. As a graduate of Manhattan College and NY Maritime College, Captain Sullivan could pilot any ship on the ocean. He enlisted in 1941 during WWII and served in the Merchant Marines, Coast Guard, and Naval Reserves during his fifty year career, which included eight awards. Gene was the son of Marguerite McGrath and Eugene L. Sullivan, of NYC. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia O'Grady, three brothers and one daughter.
He is survived by daughter Doreen and son 'Chip' (ELS III) and three grandchildren, Kalley, Camryn, and Colby Sullivan.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held 4 p.m., May 5th, at St. Gabrielle's Catholic Church and Red Rocks Cafe on Providence Road, Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Post 027 of Monroe, NC.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
